Mark Kelly is a Navy combat veteran, retired NASA astronaut and co-founder with his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, of Americans for Responsible Solutions. Giffords, a former Arizona congresswoman, is a survivor of the 2011 shooting in Tucson, Ariz.
Former astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), said on Oct. 2 that thoughts and prayers from the White House and Congress arent going to stop the next shooting. (The Washington Post)
Sunday night started out as a beautiful evening in Las Vegas, with country music in the air and the lights of the Strip mingling with stars. At least 59 people lost their lives at such a uniquely American scene, and more than 500 were injured. Thousands more will fight emotional scars, and tens of thousands will grieve and question along with them. The phenomenon of the mass shooting and the political paralysis that follows us is sadly also a uniquely American scene.
But it doesnt have to be this way.
Americans are 25 times more likely to be killed by a gun than people in other developed nations. Over 100,000 people are shot each year, 33,000 of those fatally. We can offer thoughts and prayers and move on through life numb to these losses. We can accept this galling reality. We can assume that other people like my wife, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will pay the price for our status quo. We can accept the enormous social, moral and economic cost imposed on this country by accepting gun violence as simply the cost of living in America.

Paging Dr. Lott, Paging Dr. Lott.
Why not “airline politics”?
This many people (or more) die anytime a large plane goes down.
Curious how they always want to talk about gun laws when emotions are raw.
I wonder why that is, I mean emotions are not particularly rational, logical or helpful, so why include them in an equation?
What laws were broken and what laws would’ve prevented the shooting? That’ s what the grabbers need to tell us.
We already talked about this last November.
The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians! The Russians!
Paddock already violated existing gun laws by allegedly converting semi to full auto. My question to the gun grabbers is this - if someone willing to violate the laws against murder, do you really expect any gun laws, existing or future, to hold that person back? Was Paddock supposed to think, "Well, I was planning on murdering a bunch of people with full auto rifles, but heck, if I did that, I'd be in violation of a law against converting my semi autos to full auto, so let's call the whole thing off."
The fact that anti-gunners have used two severely brain damaged people (James Brady and now Gabrielle Giffords) as sympathy props for their cause just goes to show how shameless and cynical they really are.
You know, every time Gabby Giffords speaks, I hear Mark Kelly's voice
and at no point do her lips move.
How does she do that ?
Mark Kelley should speak for himself, and stop using his wife as a platform for his own ideology.
Remember, these are the same People who think Man can control the Climate of the Planet.
People who want to kill will find a way to kill. If guns are taken away, serial killers and mass murderers will find another way. They always do. McVey didn’t use a gun, 9/11 was box cutters and airplanes, Paris was a truck, Jones was poison kool aid. Why was there no outcry regarding these mass murders?
Okay here’s my contribution to the conversation “No!”
Congress lacks the authority to restrict gun rights.
Tap dancing on blood by the liberal ghouls. These people are mentally deranged.
We all know the tragedy behind Gifford’s impediments, but what’s Kelly’s excuse ?
New laws will not prevent anything. All a law does is allow the law enforcers to arrest you AFTER you have violated it.
Laws did not prevent people from drinking during prohibition.
Laws did not prevent people from using drugs that were illegal.
Laws did not prevent people from seeing “prohibited” movies or reading certain prohibited novels back in the Hayes Code era.
The laws merely gave the law enforcers the authority to arrest you if you did.
