No soup for you? Campbell plunges on poor sales

When the thing your company is named for is no longer selling all that well, that's a big problem. Just ask Campbell Soup, which reported lousy earnings Tuesday because of weak soup sales. Shares of Campbell Soup (CPB) plunged more than 7% after the food giant said that soup sales in the U.S. fell 9% from a year ago. The company also lowered its earnings outlook for fiscal 2018.

There’s 3 Campbell soups that we use.
1. Cream of Mushroom
2. Tomato
3. Vegetarian Vegetable
We don’t actually use them as soups, but instead as ingredients to various other recipes (tuna noodle casserole(mushroom); Sloppy Joes (vegetable), as a tomato gravy on meat loaf).

I think that when the economy is doing better there’s fewer people that would want soup. More people are eating out more often.

I rarely have soup, when I do it isn’t Campbell’s. We do use cream of mushroom in recipes however.

Campbell’s Chicken Noodle used to be the go to during my broke days - 39 cents a can. Now it is on sale for a $1 a can. Campbell’s priced their basic soups out of reach for their old customers.

Same here. Discovered how delicious homemade is, so the gays can keep Campbell’s.

Progresso soup is pretty good excellent! Close to two decades ago, our DIL introduced us to Progresso Soups, and Campbell's is now longer bought, stored nor served. The Progresso Soups taste like homemade soups.

I make it 4 gallons at a time using cubed round roast for a couple bucks a lb, or a whole chicken and a few packs of thighs. Then freeze in pint containers. Cheap and filling.

Lousy sales because its lousy soup.

A friend has a relative who works for them.
He says the Obama Administration leaned all over them to cut the sodium content of their soups below certain levels.

Unfortunately he says they haven’t found a way to do that while making them taste good.

My wife will buy their Cream of Chicken or Cream of Mushroom for cooking/baking, but their regular soups we tend to avoid.

Campbell’s has gone ‘full liberal nutty’...

They’ve got a new line of ‘liberal elite fools’ soup out ... things like “Butternut Squash and Kale” and ‘Brown Rice, Black Beans and Seaweed’... Or almost that bad.

I’m guessing NONE of the people who design soup for Cambell’s live in Red States... and most of ‘em must live on college campuses’ with air head professors... and brain dead group think ideas on food.

Even the ‘fowl stuff’ doesn’t taste like chicken...

Maybe add more MSG and plenty of salt.....
I make my own soup. Tastes pretty good.
Secret ingredients are Garlic Salt and Italian herbs.

If I add msg it will taste just like Campbell’s.

I’m with ya. I went to the store with my wife a few days ago and asked her not to buy the Campbell’s soup she had picked up, then explained why. For us much of the brand’s appeal were the memories of the winter days of our childhood in northern Ohio— warm soup and family togetherness. Campbell’s tried to appropriate our cultural heritage for their queer agenda. They killed their appeal in about 5 seconds, and now they’re dead to me.

“I only buy Campbell’s Tomato soup. It’s great in the Winter with grilled cheese! All other canned soups are way to salty.”

We used to as well, for the same reason. But we’ve switched to Trader Joe’s tomato soup. It’s better.

It because of Manmade Globull Warming.

When it’s too hot outside the last thing people want is a Bowl of steaming hot Soup.

I put a tablespoon of medium Pace salsa a teaspoon of butter or olive oil in a pan - reduce it for less then a minute then add the Campbell’s cream of Tomato Soup... and a can of half milk, half water... Nice comfort food.
