If the Democrats want to shut down government, then MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER ON THE FLOOR LIKE WE USED TO.

If you look at the 60 vote filibuster no-go where they don’t even bother to make the opposition do a Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and the judicial blue slips that block nominees on the say-so of a single senator, you can see where the Senate over the course of time made itself into a undemocratic bastion of privilege where individual whim and power held sway. Any frustration at these is offset by the self-importance of each senator in knowing they can stop things anytime they like all by themselves.

The problem is he doesn’t have even 50 votes. Mc Cain and one other are not present. With 2 or 3 Republican dissenters, the votes are not there
