Democrats on Tuesday won yet another special election for a state legislative seat once held by a Republican, this time in a battleground seat south of Tampa, Fla.
With all precincts reporting, attorney Margaret Good (D) took 52 percent of the vote, ousting Sarasota real estate agent James Buchanan (R).
Good won despite Buchanan's well-known name: His father, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R), owned some of the largest car dealerships in the area. He now represents a district in Congress that includes the legislative seat in which his son ran.
President Trump carried the state legislative district by a five-point margin in 2016. It came open when the incumbent Republican quit to spend more time with her family and building her business.

I think you are absolutely correct about this. I'm just wondering, against what - lower taxes, higher wages, more jobs, higher stock market???
How do they run against that? What is their message? Is their message simply "we have to get rid of Trump"? Get rid of Trump to what end - higher taxes, fewer jobs.....?
It’s PURE HATRED towards Trump...and when turnout is 20% of the electorate, those are the only people you need. Some day, maybe, our side will finally start to understand the level of pure hatred in the Democrat base, and respond accordingly.
“””I live here, and its the candidate, stupid.”””
Mega dittos!!!! James Buchanan is a bad candidate who only got the Republican nomination because of papa Vern’s demand.
That part is true. I just hope it breaks far enough before the mid-terms for the public to comprehend the depth of Dim corruption.
Conservatives do dislike nepotism .
Why did the Gop state rep stepped down suddenly?
Yoo Hoo, RNC Rona McDaniels;
are you paying attention yet?
How many displaced Puerto Ricans were resettled in Tampa?
“””Why did the Gop state rep stepped down suddenly?”””
Bingo. Then after the election they run to hype stories like this.
Thre were signs everywhere .
“That part is true. I just hope it breaks far enough before the mid-terms for the public to comprehend the depth of Dim corruption. “
Of course. The Republicans are doing good, but do need to step up the pace a bit. If it’s too close to the election, the Dems will simply negate it by saying ‘it’s just politics’.
The current rep just quit and left .
Odd .
The Liberatarian did not help the situation .
She was well funded .
But nepotism is not a big motivator.
His son was a carpetbagger.
Congresscritter’s kid is parachuted into another district.
Hey, look at me - my Dad is famous!
A hit with the voters.
This is a telegram, sports fans!!!!
Puerto Rican invasion?
the seat should have been won by the Republican. but from what i understand, the district is kind of close registration wise.
So the Dems got their base out.
Had the country not fallen into civil war after he left office, James Buchanan could have won this election.
The GOP is going to lose these races unless we get our voters motivated the RNC and Congressional Republicans stop stabbing their voters in the back, and start getting the Wall built, ObamaCare repealed, spending cut, and stop defending the Swamp.
There, fixed it for you.
The @FlaDems flipped House District 72, which backed Trump by 5% but then backed Dem Margaret Good by 7 points. Good won more precincts in the district than any Dem in recent memory. Look at all the blue #flapol #sayfie
