Pro-Life Democrat Dan Lipinski Pulls Off Narrow Win in Illinois Primary
National Review ^ | 03/21/2018 | Alexandra Desanctis

The Associated Press has just called the primary race in Illinois’ third congressional district for pro-life Democratic congressman Dan Lipinski, who narrowly defeated his progressive challenger Marie Newman.

Lipinski has represented the district in the U.S. House for over a decade, but this year’s primary threat from Newman — which was a nail-biter even as the last votes trickled in — gained traction as the result of his moderate stances on a handful of political issues, most notably abortion.

His win tonight was likely aided by his high name recognition in the district — Lipinski’s father, Bill, represented the same district for ten years before passing the seat along to his son in 2004 — and his continuing popularity with moderate voters who tend to favor Democrats because of their support for labor unions.

Newman’s campaign was buoyed in particular by abortion-rights groups such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL, both of which have grown increasingly frustrated with Lipinski’s consistently pro-life voting record, especially as the rest of his party has grown more willing to support unlimited abortion-on-demand. Newman also received vocal support from progressive Democrats, including Senators Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.), along with Illinois representatives Jan Schakowsky and Luis Gutierrez.

Lipinski’s victory tonight is a win for the notion that Democratic politicians can be pro-life and survive within a party that’s swiftly becoming more radical on the issue — an important victory for the notion that defending innocent human life need not be a matter of purely partisan politics.

Like the Blue Dog Democrats who feigned fretting like Hamlet about the abortion elements in ObamaCare, when it comes to a vote, his “principles” will disappear and he’ll toe the party line. Voters who fall for this “conservative democrat” camoflage will get Mad Woman Pelosi — or worse.

It looks like there is going to be a lot of Democrat politicians up for the “Best Actor” award at the Oscars next year.

REPUBLICANS TAKE NOTE !

The same thing happened here in Pa Dist 18.

A Trump community (won by 20%) was won by a very conservative sounding Democrat.

THE ALARM NEEDS TO BE RAISED

Democrats are no longer lefty speaking etc.

They are talking and looking like conservatives and a sicophant media is assisting.

Our warfare has intensified.

Dan Lipinski serves in the U.S. House of Representatives. He’s not running against RINO RAUNER for Governor of Illinois.

Did he win because of his stance on “pro life” or because he is a demodummie?

Interesting: A Pro-Life Democrat will be running for governor against a Pro-Choice Republican....

RINO Rauner's opponent is a hard-core abortion on demand for any reason at any time, gay rights & gay marriage supporting progressive liberal public union supporting Democrat named JB Pritzker.

It's literally billionaire vs. billionaire for Governor here in the People's RepuliK of Illinois.

He is. But the Dems won't stand for it. They'll either turn him, or kick him out.

I honestly cannot tell you why he won. Unfortunately, I was re-districted out of a safe Republican Congressional seat about 8 years ago and into Lipinski's district. (Boy did THAT piss me off!)

The Southwest Suburbs of Chicago some years ago used to be fairly middle of the road / right of center on most things and was considered pretty pro-life, pro second amendment, low taxes, etc..

In the last 8-10 years the demographics have really changed in this district and his opponent this primary was Marie Newman. A hardcore progressive leftist who ran so far to the left it was really frightening. Pro gay, pro gay marriage, pro abortion on demand for any reason, said she wanted the USSC to force businesses to serve gays and eliminate religious exemptions for everything and more. She really was as far progressive left as I've seen. Anyone who didn't tow her exact line wasn't "inclusive" (the irony of that was lost on her ..) and she had some pretty rabid followers.

I'm far from a fan of Dan Lipinski. Honestly whenever he shows up at the train station I go to in Orland Park, IL to commute into the city to campaign, I walk right up to him and tell him what a milquetoast POS I think he is. I still have the last one from two years ago captured on video. Really don't like the guy because he "inherited" his daddy's Congressional seat via appointment and for the most part, people vote for him because he has his daddy's last name. Yes, people are that stupid.

My gut is after his very narrow victory over a far, far, FAR left progressive liberal this time around, he's a goner in 2020.

Don’t use the word “progressive.” It’s meant to sound positive and forward. These are Stalinist totalitarians that aim to turn America into Venezuela and North Korea.

The term “Pro-Life Democrat” is an oxymoron. Wait until they get into office and they will become Bart Stupak.
