China hopes to create a 'mini biosphere' on the dark side of the Moon, with flowers and silkworms sustaining each other as they grow on the lifeless lunar surface. The unprecedented plan to create life in outer space is the most intriguing part of China's lunar probe mission later this year, and could be a major boost for dreams that humans will one day live on the Moon.

Pretty cool.
Sure as heck better than that multi-million dollar Muslim outreach plan of Obama. Or the educational initiative, or the global warming initiative.

It is the FAR SIDE of the moon, not the dark side. It gets the same amount of sunlight as the nearside does.

I don’t understand “dark side of the moon.” It moves around. The FAR side of the moon?

“Which side is the dark side?”
Well, the inside, for one.

I think they meant to say far side, the Moon rotates once a month so we always see the same side of it, the far side has been seen only by lunar astronauts in orbit.
But there might be deep craters near the poles that never get into sunlight, the moon’s orbital tilt relative to the Sun is a lot smaller than the earth’s (it orbits the earth in the ecliptic plane plus or minus five degrees so that’s basically the orbital tilt relative to the Sun, just five degrees, deep craters near the poles might never see any sunlight at all.)

I dont understand dark side of the moon. It moves around.
Only one side of the Moon is visible from Earth because the Moon rotates on its axis at the same rate that the Moon orbits the Earth, a situation known as synchronous rotation or tidal locking. The Moon is directly illuminated by the Sun, and the cyclically varying viewing conditions cause the lunar phases.

Deep, man. I used to think so, at least, for a good couple of weeks.
