The S-400 can probably take out a cruise missile or even the new missiles that were fired from the B1 bombers at Syria.

The weakness of the S-400 is that the missiles it fires are too expensive for Russia to build in great enough quantity to make much of a difference on the battlefield.

You could use up all the S-400 missiles in Syria by firing cheap cruise-missiles or drones at valuable targets...

Then you have air superiority and the S-400 systems are all used up.

This, along with sophisticated electronic countermeasures, is Israel’s strategy for dealing with the S-400.

I believe Trump would leverage every bit of data/advantage he could from any action he deemed necessary to take - add Russia’s total lack of action during the strike as evidence they didn’t want to show us anything about their capabilities....after blustering about shooting down any missiles and going after the sources.....could just as easily been an attempt to hide how weak their hand really is.

Yes, he received the Nobel peace prize, then bombed 7 nations and installed the Muslim brotherhood in 3. The difference is, the corrupt media said he was a brilliant African with a high IQ.

The problem is the GI’s Assad is responsible for killing with his sponsorship of Syrian and other Islamists fighting in Syria.

I'll call BS on this statement.

Syrians fighting in Iraq during the American occupation were Sunni extremists carrying out suicide bombings against Iraqi Shia populations. These extremists were not sponsored by Assad but rather by the same people who sponsor Al Qaeda...and many of these extremists occupy leadership positions in the Sunni militias currently trying to topple the Syrian government.

In other words, these Sunni extremists have been allied with the Western globalist effort to effect regime change in Syria, and they have never been allied with the secular Alawite Syrian government.

“Have cruise missiles changed all that much from V-1 days, apart from improved guidance systems”

The only similarity is that the both are non-ballistic missiles.

V-1s were powered by a pulse jet engine that implodes after only a few minutes of operation, could not self-start or self-launch and had a top speed of 400 miles/hour, whereas modern cruise missiles are propelled by turbofan engines.

To say modern cruise missiles haven’t changed all that much except guidance from V-1s is akin to saying a 2018 Cadillac hasn’t changed all that much since Karl Benz connected a 2-cycle engine to the axle of a horseless carriage with added tiller ...

To suggest that, or that the Kurds / US are somehow deliberately shielding ISIS from Assad is disingenuous at best.

The US has and will attack any pro-Assad forces that cross the Euphrates from the West, an action that is required for pro-Assad forces to reach the ISIS camps on the Iraqi border.

Meanwhile, nothing is being done to eradicate those camps by the Kurds or the US. Its obvious that ISIS has been given a safe haven in the Kurdish zone, just like the one they enjoy in the Golan on the Israeli border.

So you are saying all the components (unknown?) are inert, but still, are spread in giant circles around each target after the dust settled. I admit I don’t know enough, but there are some questions I haven’t heard asked.

You can get in a heck of a lot of trouble asking questions like that.

Oh, really? Well here's another one. What is the diameter, in miles, around each target explosion where a "toxic dust field" of particles on the ground will be found?

I have always sought the truth by asking embarrassing questions. Were you making a comment or a threat?

"We now know whether the S-400 can intercept them. Maybe."

No, I think Tyler Rogoway over @ "The Drive" noted it was turned off, they didn't want to give us an intel treasure trove of how it works

FWIW, sounds like Ivan was ok with this and my guess whomever these rebels were nobody wanted them and rumors of a ground cleanup afterwards by Ivan and the Syrians may point in that direction also. MY guess? McCain related swampian rebels and who knows who was really funding them, possibly and ISIS offshoot? Time will tell.

I just don’t see Syria attacking the United States any time soon.

Not directly, but a shipping container loaded with sarin or another nerve agent detonated in a U.S. port city under the right wind conditions could kill thousands and is a real possibility.

Damn straight we would.

If we didn't have assets in the area, someone needs to be relieved for cause.

No one, does EW and IW like the Americans. You just don't hear about it and for good reason.

I would hope that we had an elint platform included in the strike package to collect that information. I’m not current on how far out our Elint can collect from as I’m thinking that the strikes were all by stand off missiles rather than planes bombing by flying directly over the targets. Also, the Israeli’s have probably/hopefully been collecting and sharing that info with us.
