“Nothing is secure anymore.”

Time to just not give out your SSN.

Only 1 or 2 credit cards, not a dozen.

One or two bank accounts, not lots.

Pay deposits ... do not let utilities have your SSN for credit establishment.

Lots of ways to lower your risk.

Hell. I’m 63. I went to the SS.GOV website and for the first time established myself an account as I am about to start retirement. No disclosure online. About a week later I get u.s. mail notice for ss.gov that they used my SSN to verify my identity with of all places A CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY !!

I never knowing allowed that. The one time I used my SSN legitimately my own government violates my trust.

I don’t give those 3 agencies the time of day. I venture back some 30 years ago I complied for a credit card. Still have the single one c/c. Bought a house in 2006, never needed the 3 agencies. Seller financed — she would get it all back if I defaulted.

But once again I see my own ss gov interacting with ‘em.
For you there should have been a direct u.s. mail way you to establish...

I wont cough up a dime for credit freeze/unfreeze scams.
Someday I feel I’m best off with horrible credit such that no bank can or will issue a c/c in my name !!

Then there’s the screw job we get if our insurance carriers rate us based on credit score. What a racket there.

We are so screwed.

How can that many records be available to one person at one time? That’s making it easy for the hacker.

Every time you file your income taxes you provide your SS on the 1040 form. My sweetheart thinks I am silly because I do not do my bill paying, banking, or IRS filing on line. Then I see something like this and think, “Yah, silly? it’s my money and I will care for it as I please.” Actually, I say that too, and just get that you are silly look. Unfortunately, I just had an bad experience with BB&T and was thinking of moving all my BB&T business to my Suntrust account. Now what??? I needed to pay some major bills and hand carried an $8,000 Suntrust bank check to my BB&T account. I was packed and ready to drive out of town to deal with a serious emergency. BB&T only gave me $5,000, and put the other $3,000 on 7 working day hold. My property tax check bounced, and now I have to struggle to recover $500 in late fees. BB&T’s response is basically “tough shxx.” Tax people want full payment before they will consider my case. My lawyer gave me a citation that indicates that BB&T cannot make a hold like they did??? Now what???

Time to find a trusty, locally run, credit union. Listen to Clark Howard. He’s onto alot of this crap and is NOT part of the MSM or big business mindset.

Like (R)s are only about 80% as bad as (D)s.

Credit unions are maybe only 80% as clean as big banks.

In Florida here, its SACFCU. Only 4 offices.

Unfortunately, at 79 I need a bank a short distance from home. My credit union is a complicated drive away (I only got my driver’s license when my husband was dying) and none within short walking distance. Where does Clark Howard communicate?

My nearby choices are BB&T, Wells Fargo, Suntrust, and PNC. AT is somewhat farther away although with good parking. ANy thoughts or knowledge about those choices?

This is a site that lists all chartered c/u’s

http://ncuso.org/

The idea is to kick to banks to the curb due to the way they treat customers.

“Credit unions are maybe only 80% as clean as big banks.”

Are you sure this is what you mean? Are you saying that CUs are 20% more dirty than big banks?
