The Justice Department is not an arm of the White House. The Justice Department is independent and serves the American people. Its job is to follow the facts and the law. Law enforcement investigations must be initiated and carried out free from political interference.

They also don’t grasp that there is nothing th the Constitution authorizing a DOJ. President Trump could shut the whole thing down this afternoon if he wishes.

First she is wrong. But regardless, the President certainly can request an investigation, and Rosenstein appears to have made his own independent decision to launch an IG investigation.
Obviously an investigation is merited. It’s scary that Feinstein would actually oppose investigating something so serious.

And the Executive, of which the Department of Justice is a part. Pop quiz: Do you know who is in charge of the Executive branch of government?

So for example, when 9-11 happened, the President couldn’t order an immediate investigation, he would meet with his cabinet and if the AG didn’t do anything, the President and everyone else would just give up and wait for the AG (who the President appointed) to decide to do something??

She was on the Gang of 8 briefed on secret intelligence matters.
I’m guessing that Brennan’s not-so-veiled threat he tweeted to McConnell and Ryan has to do with this — probably that if backed into a corner Brennan will rat out the Gang of 8, or at least some of them, that they knew about the plot to illegally use US government intelligence tools to deny Trump the presidency and were complicit in it.

Di Fi seems not to have read the Constitution. Article II, Section 1 gives the “Executive power” to the President, not one of his appointees. Article II, Section 3 goes on to require the President to “take care” that the laws be enforced. The Framers quite clearly made the President the solely responsible officer, not his appointees, including the DOJ, an entity that, quite deliberately, is not “independent” of the President.
