McConnell cancels Senate's August recess
The Hill ^ | June 5, 2018 | Jordain Carney

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday that he will cancel the August recess, citing "historic obstruction" by Democrats.

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled," McConnell said in a statement.

He added that senators would stay in session "to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees.”

The Senate had been expected to leave town on August 3 for a four-week break and not return to Washington until early September, after Labor Day.

But under McConnell's new plan, senators are expected to be out of town for the week of August 6. They will then return to Washington and remain in session for the rest of the month.

Here is McConnell's full statement.

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled. Senators should expect to remain in session in August to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees.”

“Constitutionalally speaking, Pence as President of the Senate could theoretically put the Senate in recess so Trump could make a recess appointment.”

My first thought was McConnell is doing this to stop any recess appointments, like, say, a new Attorney General.

I thought I just read that the next in like for Rosie’s job was Sarah Palin’s lawyer when she was Governor of Alaska.

Schumer is now publicly questioning if Trump will stay in D.C. as well, and not go to one of his, "Resorts".

Looks like either the Turtle found his balls, OR they’re in a vice that’s slowly tightening.

Good news either way.

Good time for Kennedy to retire, and for Satan to take Ruth Ginsberg home.

>>Constitutionalally speaking, Pence as President of the Senate could theoretically put the Senate in recess so Trump could make a recess appointment. Don’t know if this has ever been done but it seems the Constitution would allow for it.

Hmm, sounds good. I wonder if Pence would have the courage to do it. Maybe if DJT told him to......

Good news? Sundance over at The Treehouse certainly seems to have doubts:

On Cue – Mitch McConnell Welcomes Legislation To Block President Trump Trade Policy…

And as far as I’m concerned, I’d trust people inside The Beltway under two conditions: Either their last name’s Trump or I’ve got the subject by the throat.

Good news on 2 fronts:

1) More of Trump’s nominees will get a vote (meaning, get approved); and

2) With 25 Dems up for re-election, this will be 3 weeks in which they can’t campaign or fund-raise in any kind of efficient manner, while their opponents can. It will help in November.

For once, I must say, “Thanks, Mitch! Job well done.”

I’d wager Goldman Sachs/Wall Street has given old Mitch his marching orders; Amnesty.
GS/WS need to pump the value of shares.. via endless cheap labor.
GS/WS folk are not going to surrender sunsets over Central Park nibbling foie gras and Rothschild campaign.

BTW - Your kids will die for the petro-dollar - not theirs.

IIRC, they only work Tues thru Thurs anyway.

Lots of pay for a 3 day week with lots of weeks off.

1) can I watch?

2) I heard on a talk show that Congress only works 3 days a week when actually “working.” No bills are introduced, placed in a hopper or debated on Mondays or Fridays. Office staff may or may not take messages or just put on a phone message.

If true, wow.

Add the “recess” every so often and the extra Easter, Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving,MLK Day and personal leave and campaign weeks. Where’s the work? At that rate we wouldn’t have replacement for Obama Care, a Wall, and all those other bills passed.

Oh, wait We didn’t.
