Doesn't matter...none of it does really....Kim has no choice but play this according to Trump. He knows if he backs down he's absolutely done. We knew that when he went to S.Korea.

Trump called it the minute Kims missiles could reach the US. disarm entirely or you and your leadership are a done deal.Kim has no choices.

I would be ok with meeting maybe in China, or the DMZ itself.

I don’t think this invitation would be given unless it’s figured into the procedures and how it’s going to go because the N.Korean people have to see and believe this is happening for real.

I say this because Kim actually doesn’t have much to do except follow the orders he’s given. The USA and China are in control of this..China knew Trump would flatten the Kim regime and not care about collateral damage because his missiles could now reach the US.....and from then on TruVp let China know...remember the bomb dropped in Afghanistan while Xi was having dinner with Trump?

I just have the feel that this is going to be a go just as the leaders want it to be....and Kim just has to go through the motions he’s given..

How about another nice neutral place - like Switzerland.

Kim went to school there, it will be like old home week.

If the War is over/peace treaty signed though, it would not be unrealistic for the President to make a State visit for such an event/ceremony.

I understand fully. I miss greatly the thought provoking responses we use to have here. It was the ‘norm’now you have to wade through all the gut reactions and drive by drops before you see anything of interest.

The third summit will be held in August in Chicago

Pyongyang is much friendlier to Trump than Chicago.

It would not be safe for Trump to go to North Korea.

The ‘Kid’ has no power anymore or he and his leadership wouldn’t be in Singapore now. Just wouldn’t happen..

The “kid” only has to walk the walk he’s given to do..and look like a power broker for his people back home. And that’s only because nobody wants to see a mad dash for China’s or S.Koreans borders.

N. Koreans need to be seen as negotiating because Kim will still be in power THERE. And that’s pretty much it.

Actually, just the fact that this is being mentioned, probably indicates that it has already been coordinated.

The article mentions a summit in North Korea next month, and another in the US in September.

I agree that Kim is following what Xi laid out, but I am not sure if Xi is so forthcoming despite the obvious threat of trade retaliation by Trump. They want to slowly deflate Trump's momentum. Trump has to show that he can resume military buildup in a snap and even more painful sanction against China.

When negotiating with China and N. Korea, it is not wise to emphasize the upside if they agree, but downside if they don't.

You have it! Nice to see you understand the dynamics of these events not many here do.

All the countries surrounding N.Korea are fully on board. It just took Trump leveraging China and Russia to go along. Kim was no problem as his country was surrounded and ready to take him and his regime out. He had two choices...die or deal. Trump would have been every bit in the right to act militarily as N..Korea now was a threat to the USA by their missiles....Kim overplayed his hand and lost.

Sure, if Kim lets him bring a couple of divisions and a full complement of naval ships, he might consider it.

Yes, that's true also....but we're not moving our military advantage surrounding NKorea and Xi knows this. Neither Putin nor Xi want N.Korea lit up like a roman city under siege.... and they know without question Trump would do so..successfully so. Therefore Trumps plan will happen and they will denuclearize...

Correct, the Secret Service and US Military would needs a couple of weeks to do intel on the area where the summit would be held. There would be no way NK would allow things like manholes being welded shut, F-15s flying overhead, snipers on rooftops etc.

What’s he going to do Doughty? Back out? We’ve already seen how that goes so it won’t come back into play. What would you do if your country was surrounded with enough power to flatten your cities and countryside? Because that’s exactly why Kim is walking this walk he’s on. China and Russia are on his neck as well..so he’s got nowhere to go..

Trump had Shinzo Abe of Japan at the White House the day before the G-7 meeting, publicly declaring that Japan would be willing to participate in developing North Korea (although they want their abductees returned, and the ballistic missile program dis assembled). That was laying a big card on the table, right before the summit.

Kim Jong Un has been reforming his country’s economy since he took over four years ago, and has really turned around agricultural production. If he really wants to develop the North Korean economy, Trump can bring South Korea, Japan and the the USA to invest in North Korea - the absolute best Dream Team that they could hope for.

It is his chance to grab the golden ring.

Alternatively, he could face an epic embargo. Most consequential decision of his life.

Indeed!

Kim thought all he had to do was build and develop what the rest of the world has but soon found out he had nobody with the ability to run the places let alone operate modern equipment. His hospital is a perfect example..

I do believe Kim wants to bring his country up to date but he also realized he could not do this being detached from the rest of the world. His greatest question was how could he still retain his leadership? It wasn't going to last much longer as it was.

As for Japans people being released.....many of which are in their 50’s by now and likely few who survived their abductions. Also probably in the work camps if they've survived. So the deal will be nothing will be done toward Kim if they're returned..because most occurred under his father.. Another thing is Japan's Abe for years tried to get a deal for his people and failed...he sees Trump get three of our guys out and he's not happy Trump didn't ask for his people as well....now he realizes what's at stake and that this will be part of those negotiations.. But how do they even know if they're alive?

As if we weren’t wasting enough of Trump’s time with the first meeting.

That implies it's all a joke and everything fails right?

That’s in reference to a summit in North Korea.

Meet him somewhere else.

We have too many people in our own nation that would love to see Kim pull something. I don’t fully trust China or Russia right now.

We waited three decades, possible as many as seven more to get a man like Trump.

You don’t put your best 30 to 100 year asset in harms way, even if it’s a long shot.
