Ten Washington University students, all black and all incoming freshmen, were stopped by Clayton police this month while walking to a MetroLink stop from a late-night dinner and told they were suspected of leaving the IHOP restaurant without paying, university officials said.

Even though some of the students had receipts showing they had paid for their meals, police made all of them walk three blocks back to the restaurant, with six squad cars following them. At the restaurant, the manager told officers the students were not those who had left without paying...

So the police acted reasonably in getting the manager to ID the kids.

This fake news was reported in Miami today--so you know it'll be the latest example of eeeeevil in our society. Very little reporting of the black Trump supporters kicked out of an Uber car.

Oh, and Washington University (they hold a presidential debate every four years) is demanding cops issue a formal apology.

Seems strange to make them walk three blocks with many flashing light squad cars. Why not drive the manager over to them with one non-flashing light car?

fake headline, “wrong suspects questioned about genuine dine-and-dash crime” would be more accurate.

‘Even though some of the students had receipts showing they had paid for their meals’

either there are very stupid cops involved here, or there’s an element to this story we’re not being told...

Getting them to pay a tip is another story.

“So the police acted reasonably in getting the manager to ID the kids. “

Oh BS dude.

This was an absurd overreaction even by the standards of the “there must be a good reason because they were black” excuse makers on FR.

If you were made to walk back that far to a restaurant, after showing cops your receipt, and having all those damn cars following you, you sure as hell would not be thanking all involved for their “reasonable work”.

“Very little reporting of the black Trump supporters kicked out of an Uber car.”

The media isnt known for doing journalism.

“So the police acted reasonably in getting the manager to ID the kids.”

They had receipts for their meal, so it was not at all reasonable for the police to march them back to the restaurant.

I would have shown my receipt and kept on walking where I was going.

The only question is who is going to be forced to do an act of contrition on TV, complete with streaming hara kiri and/or resignation. Probably the restaurant manager, if White. The police will be trashed too.

The left will figure it out in such as way as to maximize the damage to Whitey, without regard to fact or truth.

The key word is “some”.

It’s possible that five of the ten had paid, but the other five had not, or seven had paid, five of which had receipts, but three had not.

Having been young myself in the area around the University of Washington, I can see a large group doing this. And so can the cops. That’s why they rounded up the whole group.

No it’s stupid.

If you drag a group with receipts back to the store... you know what happens?

The group with no receipts gets farther away.

It’s a waste of resources on non-suspects.

You’re not allowed to “round up whole groups” like that.

How many people would keep their IHOP receipt? A lot of people wouldn’t.

Few young people know that they are free to go if they are not placed under arrest.

I would have shown my receipt and asked if I was under arrest, and then said “GOOD DAY SIR!” and walked on.

I notice there have been a rash of these types of stories in the news lately.

Is this happening more, or just being covered more?

You're absolutely right. If cops did that crap to me especially after producing a receipt, there would be a UUUUGE lawsuit.
