“The U.S. is planning to send a combined 4 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Mexico and Canada in its first export of shots.”

Apparently, there are about 30 million doses of of the AZ vaccine just sitting in warehouses in the USA, awaiting authorization, and factories primed to crank out volume. The US Government contracted for 400 million doses - more than any other (they are the lowest cost provider). So we really could spare a few million for the neighbors.

Hunter will probably collect some kickbacks anyway.

When AZ gets authorized, they should make a much bigger initial splash than any of the others. J&J has been quite a slow start.

“Based on previous experience with SARS2003 and MERS2012, we should expect immunity to last between 1 and 3 years.”

Did you see the (unreviewed, unpublished) Scottish study that Cathi posted at #27?

It seems to indicate a rapid fading of protection - declining in weeks 5 and 6 (as measured by likelihood of being hospitalized with COVID). They looked at Pfizer and AZ.

It does not seem to jibe with other indicators, but I find it troublingly short.

I wonder if anything has come out of Israel, for the weeks after full vaccination?

All the studies I have seen so far show declining duration. And none of the scientists I have read expect immunity to last between 1 and 3 years. Most have suggested months.

Pfizer during an investors conference call last week indicated that they expect annual revax and potentially a 3rd booster shot. Of course that info was provided in the context of earnings expections...:-)

I have seen only one data point on duration out of Israel (about a month old.) I can’t link it because it was a screen shot of a graph. But, it showed high (over 95%) peak efficacy ten days after the second dose, slipping slightly over the next 10 days, but still over 90% and then further slippage to 87% during the final 10 days. They have offered no further info past the 35 days post vax.

I found the more concerning info in the second link to the German study I posted. 31.3% of elderly showed no detectable neutralizing antibodies compared to 2.2% in younger group.

They have told us all along that the elderly have less adverse effects from the vax. The data so far in several studies indicating that they get less efficacy may explain the less adverse effects.

My friend got a second Moderna shot at the VA a couple of weeks ago, and they discussed something about a third shot in the Fall. He was not clear on it.

My understanding is that circulating COVID-19 antibodies drop sharply a month or two after infection or vaccination, but disease resistance through T cell memory can persist a long time for some diseases (TBD for COVID).

I had heard that very few people have been re-infected by COVID-19, and virtually none died from it.

What is the thinking, on how long the immunity from COVID vaccines or infection will last?

Vaccines should drive Tcell immunity. Literature demonstrates that the second shot with Pfizer and Moderna do just that. If there were reinfection, we would see the pandemic raging in perpetuity,

I think that Tcell immunity likely does exist with those who were naturally infected and it is the reason that we are seeing the emergence of herd immunity in multiple areas of the country.

I still stand by that by July between vaccination which accelerates herd immunity and natural disease, this will be done.

All of which are coincidental and NOT one has been demonstrated to be caused by the vaccine.

The second dose drives it into the T-cell immunity. Important for most likely life long immunity

It is not gene therapy. Please explain how this modifies human genome (hint it does not). You are cutting and pasting talking points that make you look quite ignorant of basic biology.

Just sayin

Don’t know for sure yet but it would be unusual for immunity not to last months to years.

Except these are not vaccines, but serums that only mitigate some of the worst symptoms sometimes in some people. Once you get the jabs you can still get it, and must still stay physically distant from others and continue masking. So stop calling them what they are not. A whole lot of fuss over a flu whose ‘solutions’ do not work or not work as advertised. And so we quibble over various remedies and outcomes to make the whole farce seem upright, when it certainly is not. Fear mongering and Statist solutions to control people, destroy economies and usher in tyranny under the guise of a “medical” emergency.

First paragraph -- entirely a lie. They are indeed vaccines. Originally the fraud Fauci said that he wasn't sure if you could still get it, which was an intentional lie or ignorance worthy of being stripped of his (non-existent) medical license. The literature from Israel states that there is an effective block of transmission with Pfizer and Moderna. One of the biggest conspiracy theories is that this is gene modifying therapy, not vaccination. This is false, fake news, and totally untrue.

Second paragraph -- this is not a flu, it is corona virus, and entirely different species than influenza. This is not a farce over 250,000 Americans have died (some say 500,000) but the numbers is clearly much higher than average influenza. And the vaccines work quite well.

The fear mongering is as much on the antivaxxer side as is this poster as those who would take our liberty. It is embarrassing to see pseudoscience cut and paste advanced from the Feaper flat earthers.

This is entirely an incorrect, cut and paste, set of lies with no apparent intent except to have people not get the vaccine based on entirely fraudulent statements.

RC_one: What is your view, on how long immunity is likely to last, from COVID vaccines, or infections?

There’s no need to panic about other people wearing masks and getting vaccinated or not. Try some exercise or something to get the mind off of it.

CDC study suggests some patients could face more severe Covid-19 with reinfection

For the report, researchers looked at two separate outbreaks that occurred three months apart at a skilled nursing facility in Kentucky. The first outbreak at the facility occurred in July 2020.

According to the researchers, among 12 of the residents who tested positive during the first outbreak and were still living at the facility in October, five—ranging in age from 67 to 99—tested positive again during the second outbreak.

Three of the five residents had asymptomatic infections during the first outbreak, but all residents experienced symptoms of Covid-19 during the second infection. One required hospitalization and later died, the researchers noted.

Further, according to the researchers, the two residents who had symptomatic cases of Covid-19 during the first outbreak experienced more severe symptoms during their second infection.

(If first Pfizer shot can give up to 90% protection) “why do the second shot?”

Gas_Dr posted, that the literature indicates that the second shot drives TCell memory (longer term immunity).

Cathi posted a link to a Scottish study (not yet peer reviewed or published) that indicated the protection (against hospitalization for COVID), peaked four weeks after a first shot (Pfizer or AZ), and declined in weeks 5 and 6.

Perhaps a second shot really s important.

How is J and J sure to last as long as the 2 dose ones? Does it have to do with half life or whatever?

The article that you linked in post#56, actually presents a strong case overall, for powerful immunity resulting from natural COVID infections.

The few (3, 5) isolated cases of likely extremely frail and elderly nursing home patients testing positive for reinfection however, is more anecdotal.

Good question,

I don’t really know how the length of immunity from the one shot will compare to the two shot vaccines. I have heard that J&J has already begun a study to asses their performance, if given two shots.

So they will be able to compare over time.
