Progressive push to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day continues

Rep. Nydia Velázquez, D-N.Y., slammed Christopher Columbus as a "genocidal maniac" on his holiday Monday as progressives continue their push for the federal holiday to be officially replaced with Indigenous Peoples Day.

"Today should just be #IndigenousPeopleDay," Velázquez tweeted. "And yet this day is still shared with a genocidal maniac.

"We need to take this time to reflect on the brutal history of violence against Indigenous peoples in America and recognize that there is still a lot of work to repair this harm."

The Aztecs tried to stop genocidal maniacs and other horrific things for almost 200 years, and would have succeeded if Christopher Columbus hadn’t opened things up on exploration! (Sarcasm)

The sainted “indigenous peoples” were actually the genocidal maniacs.

It’s amazing all the ire directed at Columbus. Did anyone ask her her views on the conquistadors?

Representative Velasquez is a Hispanic who was born in Puerto Rico. She believes the Spanish coming to the Americas was a genocidal disaster? So, she wishes she had never been born?

As a human being, Christopher Columbus looks pretty good compared to most of the explorers and conquistadors. The harmful effects of his discovery on the native populations were mostly unintended and unexpected. The worst thing he did was to round up several hundred natives and take them to Spain to be slaves--but Queen Isabella freed them.

Francisco Pizarro, now, is not someone I would want to encounter in a dark alley. He was a bad dude.

Of the Spanish explorers, not counting the missionaries, maybe Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca was the best person. His account of his experiences on the Narvaez expedition and later as a slave of Indians on the Texas coast (near present-day Galveston) makes very interesting reading.

We now know the “infected blanket” lie is a disgusting slander originated by non other than the execrable fraud Ward Churchill.

The plains Indians are now recognized as one of the most warlike group of people documented. There was very little option other than all out war.

The Anisazi - the Ancestral Puebloans? They were eaten by their enemies in order to terrorize them. They are gone now, not so much as a sprig of parsley left.

The Aztecs? So despised by their neighbors that upon the arrival of the Conquistadors, local communities united with the Spaniards in order to annihilate the murderous beast-like Aztecs who had abused, terrified and slaughtered their men, women and children over the decades.

Fortunately thinking people are beyond this now and my directly Native American Patriot children have full access to American society and prosperity the left would instantly deny them if given a chance. Such is the greatness of American culture and such is the depravity of leftist scum.

Nothing says anti-Italian bigotry more clearly than trying to rename the holiday Italians and the nation have celebrated proudly for decades marking their culture and heritage to “Indigenous People’s Day” - try changing Martin Luther King Day to “Contented Old Slave Day” and see what happens - I went outside my teepee this morning and tried to send a smoke signal to the White House in protest, but it as too windy and I doubt that it ever got there.......

How the tribes treated each other before the White Man arrived. This is my short list. I need to make a longer list but it would be way too long.

Indians can have their own holiday . They don’t need to attack Columbus and Italian Americans.

Indeed. It must be difficult for a person with a Spanish surname to grapple with Spanish Colonization. Her very DNA is at war with itself.
