One of >100 questions that remain unanswered:
What prescriptions was the kid on?
I agree and want to know. There appears to be more than mere correlation between violence and some psychotropic prescription medications.
Good luck getting that info.
For those of us that barely have internet service...
Is a transcript available?
Psychotropic drugs and the psychiatrist or therapist talking to these shooters. Who are the therapists?
Add in “known to the FBI” and the correlation is nearly perfect.
The issue is not the drugs. The issue is mental illness. They just happen to be taking the drugs to try and deal with their mental illness. My wife spent 10 years as a diagnostician dealing with violent youth offenders in the Texas Juvenile Justice System. You can talk to these youth, and they are definitely brain-damaged. And, it’s not the psycho drugs. The drugs actually keep them functional, and keep them from twisting off like rabid dog.
There is a web sight that keeps records of the antidepressants and kids and school shootings. Not sure how to post a web sight here but it’s interesting to look at. It’s ssristories . net. Didn’t want to make it clickable cause jut sure if it’s allowed.
I will never forget about 20 years ago my 12 yo daughter was getting a checkup and we told the tiny bespectacled MD she had some behavior issues (big mistake). He looked at her ears and throat, asked her a couple of questions and immediately proclaimed she has ADD and needed to take Ritalin. My wife even went and got the prescription filled. I had to put my foot down forbid her from taking the “medication.”
We must do something about all this water.
Well, That's true enough. I remember taking my single barrel Iver Johnson to school so I could rabbit hunt the railroad tracks back toward home..
Shrinks will spam this subject with arguments to deflect attention from the simple fact that all of the mass killers are or were on psychotropics. Its all bs. Shrinks create these killers. Period.
With that said, I do believe a serious study should be made to see if there are rare cases where these medications have significantly contributed to violent behavior.
IMHO SSRIs and stimulants can do just that, and medical practitioners who prescribe these medications to young adults should be required to carefully monitor their patients up to around 25 or 30 years of age.
I agree that a goodly number of mass shooters have been on psychotropic drugs or street drugs or pot and tgis is likely an important factor. The Buffalo and Uvalde shooters did not appear to have received any medical or mental health treatment, though, so seems unlikely in these two cases unless they were “self-medicating” with pot or street drugs.
.
Been following this for years. The problem is that correlation is not causation, so we have to be careful. However, in this case I think there is a good argument to be made that SSRIs do indeed have violent side effects.

quote:
In a systematic review of placebo-controlled trials in adult healthy volunteers, we showed that antidepressants double the occurrence of events that the FDA has defined as possible precursors to suicide and violence
This has been brought up before and the establishment has chosen to totally ignore it.
My take: “psychotropic” drugs make the problem worse. They are chemicals that course through the body to give the illusion of a feeling that isn’t really there.
They mask how the person feels.
A person who was depressed before taking the drugs is still depressed, but the drugs mask the depression and create an external illusion that all is OK. Same with suicidal ideations.
The “psychiatric” profession has become a fraud. It is largely assuming that problems of emotional adjustment are nothing more than a chemical imbalance. They “treat” it with a chemical that they claim restores the balance.
A huge percentage of young people in college are on psychoactive drugs of some sort. “Treating” emotional problems with chemicals is now part of the culture.
You can’t make a person healthy again by pumping him full of chemicals. You can’t go to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for A Father. There are no prescriptions for A New Set of Moral Values. Pfizer doesn’t make pills with compassion, empathy, respect, honesty, courage.
The American culture of Passionate Materialism isn’t making people happy.
"One long-neglected element of the conversation is that the recent rise in mass homicides coincides with the greatest use of cognition-altering psychiatric drugs ever observed in human history."
