It is now a "near certainty" that 2023 will be Earth's hottest year on record, scientists have said.
The stark warning comes after a record-breaking October, in which global temperatures were 0.4C higher than the previous record for the month, set in 2019.
"This is a huge margin," said Samantha Burgess, deputy director of the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).
She described the temperature anomaly as "very extreme".
"October has seen exceptional temperature anomalies, following on from four months of global temperature records being obliterated," she said.
"We can say with near certainty that 2023 will be the warmest year on record, and is currently 1.43C above the pre-industrial average."
It puts further pressure on world leaders to get an ambitious outcome at the United Nations climate change conference, COP28, at the end of this month.
"The sense of urgency for ambitious climate action going into COP28 has never been higher," Ms Burgess added.

So, the fact that it was hotter during the millions of dinasaur years (when life was proliferating) doesn’t count?
Journalism...for those for whom Science for Poets was too complicated.
The ‘record’ has only been around since 1979, the year satellite temperatures started. Temperatures were higher than now during the Roman Climate Optimum, and Medieval Warm Period, just a few centuries ago.
> global temperatures were 0.4C higher than the previous record for the month <
If the data hasn’t been manipulated (and that’s a big if), a measurement of +0.4C for something as big as the Earth is well within the margin of error. So I suspect that these “scientists” just reported the highest measurement in the range obtained.
Not that it matters. Lets everybody go back to medieval living and eat bugs for dinner. And by everybody, I mean everybody except the elites.
They can still have their heated mansions, their private jets, and their steak dinners.
“Earth’s hottest year “
This they know...?
But will it rain tomorrow ? .....
Undersea seismic activity.
Pure BS by the climate cultist so nothing new.
All the recording stations are now in cities and at airports. No trees and all asphalt. Wtf do you think the temperatures will show?
Lot of BS mingled into this.
I live in central Germany. For me, mildest summer in decades...roughly nine days that it exceeded 89 F, and nothing above 92 F.
I will admit...almost three months of consecutive drought days (absolutely no rain), then we hit some daily rain pattern for the last six weeks of summer.
You ain't seen nothing yet, just wait until the war starts..
Interestingly today is supposed to tie or beat the all-time hottest temperature for November 9th.
In the Louisville area…82 degrees, a summer temperature, when the high is usually about 60.

Well, I kinda like it. October was a good month for me. I didn’t have to use the AC and I didn’t turn on the furnace. Granted, it was getting a bit iffy on not using the furnace towards the end of the month. There were a couple of mornings that it was about 60 degrees inside and didn’t warm up until noon, but that’s what sweaters are for. I learned that from a peanut farmer.
Solar maximum will be next year.

That huge volcano that erupted will cause weather to change for a long time.
Don’t forget their fava beans...
Here in central NC-USA, we also had another very mild summer. Several years ago, we would routinely have 5 or 10 days of 100 degree plus temperatures per season. This year and for the last several, we have had none. Cooler summers. Global warming is a hoax. But you knew that.
They constantly change the metrics to get the “right” data.
Here in northeast Oklahoma, last winter had some of the coldest days I’ve seen since moving here over 2 decades ago.
They always forget to mention that the "global record" starts in 1979, when the first global temperature satellites were launched.
They also forget to mention that 1960 to 1980 was a period of cooling, in North America for certain, and likely for the entire Earth.
If they could compare 2014-2023 to the 1930s, the 1930s would be warmer.
