GOV. LARRY HOGAN: I'm running for U.S. Senate
Twitter/X ^ | Feb 9 | Larry Hogan

Posted on 02/09/2024 9:12:41 AM PST by RandFan

@GovLarryHogan

I am running for the United States Senate – not to serve one party – but to stand up to both parties, fight for Maryland, and fix our nation's broken politics. It’s what I did as Maryland’s governor, and it’s exactly how I'll serve Maryland in the Senate. Let’s get back to work.

Yeah, no negatives with this. He’ll be whipped to vote in line like every other GOP member.

Hogan's TDS might lead to him abandoning the GOP on some key votes, but yes he would still be better than any democrat Senator from Maryland.

I guess if the people of MD are dumb enough to make him governor, they’re dumb enough to make him a senator.

**************

Maryland is a Democrat stronghold. Deep, perma blue state.

Hogan will effectively run as a Democrat but it won’t get him elected IMO.

Thanks RandFan

This is VERY good news on multiple fronts

1. As he says, if elected (and he’s the only Republican who could be elected from Maryland) he would be part of a center in the Senate that could possibly pass consensus legislation. As it is, we have almost a void in the center. We have Manchin on energy votes willing to work with Republicans. And, maybe three Republicans willing to work with Democrats. But, that’s about it. Senima of Arizona describes herself as a moderate, but I don’t see it in the votes. If we get to 52 or so in the Senate, we can confirm nominees and enact the budget. But, we need to get to 60 to pass legislation, e.g., reforming immigration.

2. This not only rules Hogan out as a possible presidential candidate for No Labels, it makes it that much more difficult for No Labels to gain traction. It will be a mano a mano race, Trump v Biden, in the presidential; and, their supporting cast running for house and senate. As it is, RFK Jr looks like he’s taking the independent route, and has the resources to get on all or almost all ballots. The Libertarian will be on all or almost all ballots. The Green Party and Cornel (not Kanye) West will each be on some number number of ballots. (Let’s help those two where we can.) But, surveys indicate these independent and third party candidates hut Biden a little more than they hurt Trump.

Bottom line: things are clarifying. Uncertainties are being removed. It’s on to the battle.

Hogan will win the senate seat and then the GOP slime balls will vote to make him the majority/minority leader.

Having a RINO senator from Maryland is OK as long as he is not given ANY committee chairs.

That is one of the primary problems now. You got scum like Lisa Mercowsky as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee (Subcommittees –Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Defense; Energy and Water Development; Homeland Security; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies).

Too many RINO’s are put in a position of power over the rank and file. They should not be on ANY committee, except for cleaning toilets.

Baltimore is to Maryland as NYC is to upstate NY and Chicago is to downstate. Even Montgomery and PG counties are mostly pretty nice places to live but they are DC bedroom counties full of GSers and federal contractor types who cement the democrat lock in the legislature. The rest of the state is our kind of territory, or at least winnable in a good year, but it’s saddled with LeftWorld taxes, regulations and culture war nonsense driven by the politics of three counties.

He will be the mainstream media’s favorite and when he votes with the dems or criticizes Trump in his second term will say it is bi-partisan and the republicans are out of touch. Lackey.

That’s fine. He may support the actual conservative perspective 15% of the time which would mean a 15% improvement.
