CNN contributor Bob Costas shared a brutal analysis of former President Donald Trump in a rant on the network on Saturday.
Costas was asked to share his thoughts on Trump while appearing on Smerconish. His subsequent rant was not limited to just the former president, but also his fans.
“He is by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history. He‘s only become more disgraceful since 2016, and since 2020 he has a bubbling cauldron of loathsome traits,” Costas said of Trump. “You have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion in a toxic cult to believe that Donald Trump has ever been, in any sense, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit to be president of the United States. But his supporters are locked in on that.”
The political analysis is a unique glimpse into the Emmy-winning sportscaster, who is currently contracted with TBS as a play-by-play baseball announcer, and HBO Sports with a quarterly interview series. Despite his strong opinion of Trump, he acknowledged that President Joe Biden does not have a “cult” following. Costas seemed discouraging of Biden running a second time, as Biden had signaled he would be a one-term president during his first campaign.
“And at best, he can squeak by Trump. That‘s at best,” Costas said of Biden. “Or, he could lose to Trump and subject the nation to four more years of this kind of ongoing insanity. Or if he squeaked by, it’s very likely that he cannot complete his second term. He’ll be 86 at the end of it.”
Trump is fresh off from winning the South Carolina Republican Primary on Saturday. Biden also swept the Democratic Primary weeks ago, to a smaller voter turnout.
It’s like being berated by the Lollipop Guild.

Most Americans used to like him, now more than half hate his guts. Sad legacy..
Of all the sport broadcasters I always found Costas to be among the weakest. There were times he was so boring I’d turn the game off. His personality actually interfered with watching the game. Now I can add insufferable to boring!
Bob Costas has provided absolutely nothing to society since his existence. He’s a sportscaster. A profession in which one doesn’t have to have much of a brain.
Costas’s IQ level is that of room temperature.
Bob needs to stick to what he might know best, baseball. He is a fool elsewhere. I will never watch him, any program he is part of, including a live baseball game, which I never watch anyway!!! :-)
Hubby and I walked behind Costas years ago, leaving a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. I swear he's only 4'11" !

I’m guessing Costas has never actually watched one of Trump’s rallies, although I’m sure he’s seen plenty of clips taken out of context.
Every time a 1%-er like Costas goes on about, “The country can’t survive another term of Donald Trump”, it simply demonstrates the self-centered bubble of privilege in which they live. They live in gated communities, and are little effected by the inflation and anemic economy the average American faces. Their insular lifestyle allows them to avoid the world in which their audience lives - avoid the crime, and the transformation of their communities by illegals.
People like Costas disrespect their audience, and browbeat them into ignoring the circumstances of their own lives, to instead support the interests of elites like himself, over their own, all the while, feigning a connection and concern for the everyman. This is a choice that the Bob Costas’s of the world make, because it’s possible to live a life of wealth and privilege and still have empathy and concern for those living under less affluent circumstances. But doing so would require a level of character, decency and intellectual honesty that they lack.
Just say it: he’s a fascist.
