PRAGUE, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said on Monday the United States and its allies had to win the war against terrorism but in the long run the West also had to bring an end to global inequalities.
Speaking at a human rights conference in the Czech capital, Clinton repeated his support for his successor George W. Bush, and the action taken following last month's suicide attacks on the United States.
"At the moment we have to win the fight we are in, but over the long run we have to spread the benefits and shrink the burdens of this new age," he said.
"We have to get people in the developing world to turn away from primitive hatreds, we have to get people in the developed world to turn away from short-sighted selfishness," he said.
He said global inequalities fuelled violence and the United States and other wealthy countries had to do more to combat poverty, AIDS and environmental issues such as global warming.
Bush in March pulled out of the 1997 Kyoto treaty on climate change, saying the deal, signed by Clinton, would harm the U.S. eocnomy.
By withdrawing from the accord, Bush removed the world's biggest economy and the emitter of one quarter of the globe's man-made greenhouse gases, from a system based on countries of the world acting in concert.

Equal Justice under law, is all the equality that any can expect or hope for in this life. Giving Government, or World Governmental bodies, the power to attempt more is the danger that the twentieth century taught the whole world is too risky and corrupt to chance.
Given a chance, the World Socialists, like you Bill, will produce a repeat of the planned soviet economy on a world scale. That path must not be taken.

As evidenced by the extreme poverty of Usama bin Laden and the lackeys in the U.S. who spent their final days in strip clubs and massage parlors. Yeah, the evidence for the poverty angle is simply overwhelming.

Well, we could keep all those Islamic fundamentalists out of our strip clubs and massage parlors. That might help reduce the spread of AIDS among Islamic fundamentalists.

Oh, yeah! I remember seeing all those protestors in Afghanistan and the Palestinian occupied portions of Israel demanding that something be done about all those greenhouse gasses.
On the other hand, if Bubba would just shut up we could reduce C02 emissions significantly.

There is no way we can change Islam. The best we can do is to isolate it and put an iron curtain around it. Then wait a few centuries until it destroys itself from within.
There ain't no free ride. You get what you earn. Inequality is a logical consequence of behavior.
That strikes me as a rather tall order. Why didn't Clinton do that during his presidency? Was he asleep at the switch or something? :)
