"Band of Brothers" concludes this evening
11/04/01 | myself

Part ten of Band of Brothers is on HBO this evening. It will be the conclusion of the miniseries. Who out there has been watching this show? I'm curious as to what viewers have thought of this program.

I've really enjoyed it. I thought it was well produced. Last week's episode (part nine) was pretty emotional. I wound up rewinding it and watching it again.

I can't wait to see how it ends. I will actually miss looking forward to new episodes.

I despise Spielberg. I cancelled HBO right after episode 9 when Spielbergs real agenda became evident.

And what pray tell is that? Some people are just trying to find something they can be offended by.

Let me guess. Are you one of those curmudgeions that dont believe the holocaust occured or are you just upset that the Germans lost the war before they completed their little project?

The author, Steven Ambrose, is a liberal. In his newest book, Wilde Blue Yonder, he gives a dig against "right wing Republicans." The book centers around George McGoverns life as a B-24 pilot in Europe. Never the less, Ambrose is a good writer.

I figured as much. I've never read any of his work, but I suspected Spielberg would not embrace a conservative writer. Nonetheless, I went out today and bought Band of Brothers because I know I'll want to read it after the show concludes.

I've watched and have recorded (on the TiVo) every episode. I also read the book by Ambrose and believe the series to be a accurate depiction of the events described in the book.

Wrap-up!

Ok, now that it's over, what was the best? I think the episode on the Ardennes with Doc Reaux and the following one with Lipton as 1st Shirt were just awesome. The worse? The one with Blythe. What yall think?

As I tearfully watched the conclusion this evening,my final comment was "F**k the media!" I am so mad at the "newsholes" for doubting the effectiveness of our guys! When I watched the old timers, and saw the depth of their feeling ..to this day.!....I was livid!Every public voice should praise and support our troops. Most of us have never seen combat. We cannot possibly know the horrors and demands.....but we can give our ABSOLUTE support.Anything less is treason!

30 minutes and counting :) We uusally watch the east coast feed but watched the World Series tonight. My wife and I have been glued to HBO every Sunday night. This mini-series has been fabulous!
Can't wait for the DVD!
This mini-series should and hopefully will win mega awards, we have a good friend who works at Dreamworks and worked on Band of Brothers so we are pulling for the awards:)
Regardless of how we feel about Spielberg and Hanks and their politics they have done an outstanding job with this series.
God Bless our war vets!

I'm with you. I also think that I have to give credit to Gene Kelly, Spielberg, Hanks, and Ambrose. It was a great mini-series, and would do well to be included in American History classes.

It might be true that Ambrose is a liberal, but back then even liberals were patriotic. Series such as Band of Brothers will bring back other liberals to that level of patriotism and self-respect.

Patriotic liberals aren't our enemy. It's the other kind of liberal who almost dragged us into the gutter. Hard to believe that Hanks and Spielberg had this patriotic epiphany prior to 9/11, but they did do Saving Private Ryan. I would also guess that Ambrose had quite an influence on them.

Patriotism is once again in the mainstream even in the Blue Zones. It might be small, it might be large, but I'll take that form of progress.

My husband and I watched it religiously. We thought it was outstanding and I had to blink the tears out of my eyes at the end. I was way more impressed than I had been with Saving Private Ryan (prob. because that was fictional and kind-of contrived.)

I would say Episode 9 was my least favorite- the labor camp part was good- but the rest seemed kind-of like a dumping ground for little incidental stories.

We taped all of the episodes for my father as the parents won't subscribe to premium channels. He was in the 101st in Vietnam and then again at Ft. Campbell. He has also enjoyed them.

I'd have to say that for action, Episode 3 (Carentan) was the best. Episode 7 (The Breaking Point) was also a good one.

To be honest, not one was a letdown.

Ambrose is not a liberal, but rather an Eisenhower Republican. In fact, his books are routinely savaged in the liberal book world in places like San Francisco and New York. They think he's a war monger.

I fully agree. Maybe that's because it was ten full hours and the characters were real. I was somewhat suprised that Spielberg didn't direct a single episode. In fact, almost every episode was directed by someone different. Tom Hanks even directed an episode. I think it was episode 5. Yet all 10 shows flowed together well.

Hey, since you seem to have read alot of Ambrose, check out the afterward of "Citizen Soldier" in which he attacks Hemingway and the liberal academic establishment. I ould just point this out for further discussion.

I watched every episode twice. My dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and he said the miniseries was very realistic.

I found the entire thing captivating and moving. The music. . . man, the music. Just so moving.

"Ambrose is not a liberal, but rather an Eisenhower Republican. In fact, his books are routinely savaged in the liberal book world in places like San Francisco and New York. They think he's a war monger."

You just listed four compliments for Ambrose in three sentences. He's clearly a patriot.

Considering that last fact alone probably means that at least New York has changed its collective mind about him now (post 9/11).

Once San Francisco figures out that it is no longer "cool" to be anti-American, it might start to change, too.

My dad was a combat medic, so I enjoyed that episode as well. "Jewels of the Battlefield"!
