I Finally Made The Switch (To Republican)
Vanity

Posted on 11/04/2001 2:46:07 PM PST by Bush_Democrat
Well, after many, many years as a closet Republican (you know, registered Democrat, but mostly voting Republican), I finally made the switch!
I was walking around our annual Street Faire and came across the Republican Women's booth, and filled out the paperwork to switch parties. I was in good company, the woman volunteering at the booth said they had already had over a hundred others switching from Democrat to Republican at her booth today!!!

It's something I've been contemplating for a long time, and I decided that staying registered as a Demon-crat just wasn't worth the small amount of pleasure I got from it (I mainly did it to needle my husband...8^)...)
Now on to my next dilemma .....What to do about my screen name?
I chose it in honor of all those Reagan Democrats. Now what??
To: Bush_Democrat
Contrary to what you may have heard, the tent's large enough to accommodate you. Welcome aboard, friend.

Is there any way I can alter my screen name, and keep my original "Member Since" date?? I don't want everyone here to think that I'm just another newbie (or potential disruptor), I get enough flack for just being a rookie!
To: Bush_Democrat
Good, now that you are officially a Republican, the Libertarians can now work on you. LOL just kidding.
To: Bush_Democrat
Welcome aboard. We need more people like you.

Congratulations. Now you have to get your pals to switch too. As far as changing your name, Bushxdemocrat. Just add an x.

However, if she's going to join the "extreme" right wing, their activities start at 9:30 pm on Thursdays involving extreme snacking and beverages.

Way to go Bush Democrat!
Welcome home!
Keep the name, and be proud of it! I think it says a lot.
I've come to realize over the years, that being conservative means that you are more open minded then your so called liberal friends.
When I get into political debates with some of my friends, who are very democratic, they inevitibly resort to name calling. I just smile, knowing the battle's been won!
Keep a smile on your face, and sound logic in your answers, and that will always confound those who wish to put you asunder!
Be of good cheer my friend, you are among friends!

Congratulations!
I was raised in a heavily Democratic family. The strange thing was, that all of our ideals were
conservative Republican in nature. The Democrat leaning was due solely to the belief that Repubs'
were mean and the Demos' cared.
It took me a good part of my young adult life to see the nonsense in that. Getting tired of waiting for
things to "happen for me" I started working hard to make something out of my life. A task I still work
hard at.
But along the road, self dependence led to a conservative Republican way of looking at things.
Now when I head home for the Holidays it seems weird to hear arguments for government dependance.

Wonderful news! Now here's what you gotta do. Click on
this link
and see how long it takes for you to become an official Bush Babe!
Every night at around 6 o'clock Pacific Time there is a thread posted that includes pictures taken from President Bush's daily life. It is called "A Day in the Life of President Bush". Warning though, it's very addictive!
All you have to do each night is do a search on "A Day in the Life" and it will take you to the latest thread. And if you are lucky, Rintense will put you on her ping list!

Go back and register as a Democrat. Vote in their primaries for the lesser DegeneRat. Then vote Republican in the big one.

What's the problem?
As I recall, Mr. Robinson also (officially) switched party affiliation within the last year.

I gave up on my dem wife.

Funny thing happens...the voters that reciently switch many times become the best Pubbies. They have their heads screwed on right and look both ways before deciding to cross the street.
Welcome!!!

"Now when I head home for the Holidays it seems weird to hear arguments for government dependance". It must seem weird to hear it too, sometimes, hunh?
To: michigander
Actually, I was asking about changing my screen name. If I just sign up for a new one, it will have todays date as the membership date. Then, the next time I said something silly or stupid on here, someone will inevitably post the fact that 'you just signed up here, must be a disruptor, etc..) I get enough flack as it is....
To: michigander

I like your screen name just as it is. And I loved your story...sometimes the timing is just right. Welcome to a party that has lots of problems (trent lott for one, john mccain for another, just to name a couple) but that firmly believes in individual responsibility, less government, and the rule of law as stated in our constitution. With my heart, I welcome you home.

Welcome aboard!!!!
My folks grew up in coal mining families in Western PA where pictures of FDR were hung right next to pictures of Jesus. Both of them left the mining/ union culture, dad in law enforcement, and mom in an architect's office. Life outside of the unions, coupled with Reagan's pro-like outlook was all it took. We are now a proudly Republican family!

Are you saying that the women at the Republican booth made an honest man out of you?!!!!!!!!
How DOES it feel? Welcome!
To: Bush_Democrat
When I first moved to this little southern city in Arkansas, the first thing I did was register to vote. I checked republican in the space provided.
The clerk looked at me with a frown and said "Ya know that if you persist in registering as a republican you won't be able to vote in most of the elections." I said "How so?"
She then went on to explain that there were few republicans in the area and that the local offices were all democrat controlled. I told her I would take my chances and did not mind not voting for local sheriff and such.
Well, that was 11 years ago. Since that time the republican party has grown by leaps and bounds. Thanks in large part to Klintoon. We now have a great Republican governor and many democrats have switched to the republican party or now call themselves "independents".
Welcome to the party!

To hear it here, too.

Welcome aboard. Now you have a President that you can be proud of and when he gets a tear in his eyes, it's real. Bush is going to be a Great President as in Greatest.

the next time I said something silly or stupid on here, ... In a case like that, I've haven't seen seniority save too many.
It's usually just a matter of the way the ridicule is administered.
To: Bush_Democrat
IMO, most ex-Democrats make the best Repubbies. They KNOW why they switched.
One way to let people know you're not a newby is do what others have done - change your handle but add a disclaimer - showing your old handle and original date of "entry" into FR. However, I like your handle as it is.
