A 72-year-old woman is one of three members of a Green Cove Springs family now in jail, accused of selling marijuana.
|
Police said that undercover officers bought marijuana at the home on four separate occasions prior to issuing a search warrant. When officers entered the home, the elder Layfield was found sitting in a living room with several bags of marijuana.
"It's unusual to find someone her age selling pot, but she's not the first and probably won't be the last," said Lt. Larry Thompson, who heads up the Clay County Drug Task Force, which co-ordinates the efforts of the sheriff's office, the Green Cove Springs and Orange Park police departments.
All three suspects were charged with possession, sale and delivery of marijuana over 20 grams, a felony with penalties of up to five years in jail upon conviction.
Elnora Layfield has two prior drug-related charges.
"Maybe a little jail time will send a stronger message to her -- because probation isn't working," Thompson said.
Safe to consume in large quantity but surely not safe to possess in large quantity. No one has ever OD'd on pot, but many have on alcohol.
This is just like our government, to keep something like pot illegal, while continuing to sell alcohol at every intersection. It has never made any sense to me.
Sorta gives one pause doesn't it?
Subjects is correct. This a grand experient by the fed which has failed...and the test subjects are the innocent unknowing citizens.
...as long as it's not accompanied by pointing.

I was travelling to work reading the newspaper there were two articles on separate pages, one about the number of arrests for the possession of cannabis in the year 2000, around 90000. Then I read another article about the rise in street crime of young criminals being arrested and then while out on bail awaiting there trail which may not take place until at least 6 months later, committing more crime.
The reason they are not locked up well the jails are filled to bursting no more room until new jails have been built.
Also cases failing because they took such a long time to get to court because of the amount of criminal cases that are being processed.
That is when I realised that this war does effect me.
I want street thugs and house breakers arrested I want them to be remanded I want the courts to deal with them swiftly and I want tougher sentences.
This doesnt mean I want jails on every street corner, or every second person working as a policeman, customs man, prison officer or court worker, what I want it to mean is deal with real crime, crime that involves a victim as well as a criminal.
Cheers Tony
For god's sake whats wrong with the cops over there? are they too lazy to go out and catch the real criminals? Or did they spot her selling while they were on the way back to the station after buying donuts?
Well, the first thing you know, old "Granny's" in a courthouse
The judge said, Yep, I'll put you in the big house
Said, A place like Quentin is where you're gonna be
So he passed sentence on her and on her family.
Five years, that is, hard time, hoosegow.
Well now it's time to say goodbye to "Granny" and her kids
They would like to thank you folks who dropped in to buy a lid
Don't sell your smoke if they don't toke and pass along the joint
I hope this story that I tell helps to prove a point.
War on Drugs, that is, you're busted, jail cell for one
Don't get caught now, hear?
I have quite a few friends who are coppers.
They told me of a system that was in place near where I live.
Near the Business centre in London there was a club that young people used to go to.
On very cold nights or if an arrest figure needed to be bumped up they use to stop clubbers as they were going in, or stop them when they were leaving, at least one two or even a few more would have a wrap of cocaine, some pills, or speed or some sort of clubbers drugs.
Then all of a sudden this practise was halted from above.
Why ?
A Liberalisation policy, no.
The decision that it was a waste of time, or that clubbers should not be arrested, no.
The need to go after other criminals well sort of.
What happened was the IRA planted a bomb in the Business centre of London, the damage caused and the loss of business amounted to millions.
Instead of arresting clubbers the city of London Police were tasked with protecting the City business centre. To do this they needed to be out and about on the street not back at the police station processing the arrest of the clubbers.
It would be nice to think that one day the government will think as highly of the people as they do the City and make sure the police are on the beat looking out for are welfare instead of processing the arrest of some individual who had some drugs on them.
Cheers Tony
I'd imagine so, but I've never seen it happen, so I'll have to take your word for it.;)
