Anyone else having trouble trying to confirm the order once they've entered all the information. It's returning a "Page not found" error.

Ditto. I guess we'll see what happens, since I've ordered things before where I get screens like that, but my order still gets through.

So, no one has to buy Redhat?

No, they don't. They can install via FTP, if they like.

And, if you're using Windows XP, you don't even have the option of doing a significant hardware upgrade without getting permission from Microsoft. I have no idea how long you'd be on hold before getting your new authorization key.

But, hey...if having control over what you do with your computer isn't a big deal to you, what can I say?

I've forgotten more about Windows than you'll ever know ;)

Apparently the site was getting hammered (can't handle more than two or three concurrent hits?) and wouldn't confirm the order.

I tried it again and it went thru.

I believe MS yanked that authorization scheme under intense pressure from damn near everybody. Corporate version don't have it, at least.

Indeed. The corporate version does not have it, but it costs a bit more than the consumer version, I believe. Anyhow, the version that goes on home computers most assuredly has it.

I run Win2k Pro and Win2k Advanced Server. I can do anything with this.

Did you ever purchase a car? Register it? Add mods to it? Change the wheels? Stereo? Did you always have to go to the Manufacturer? No, and neither do I with MS OS'.

So, you will never own a car, and always rent, eh? ;)

Do you need authorization from the auto maker to add a new stereo? My car doesn't have a checksum that will disable the vehicle if I change the tires on it. Then again, neither does the corporate XP that followed me home one day.

No, and neither do I with MS OS'.

As the AT&T ads used to say:

You will.

It's true you don't need to do that with Windows 2000. But, it's also true that when you upgrade to XP (and upgrade you will, eventually, because Windows 2000 will eventually get EOLd), you will have to endure this product activation garbage.

This version of XP doesn't put activation into the version sold to corporate customers, but I have a very strong feeling that will change in the future.

I ordered it up too!

Did you get a screen after you confirmed? (besides the "page not found.") If so, I'd better try again.

According to the description for their other Proliant/Linux course (#800), these freebies are for people that are employed by Compaq or an authorized Compaq Business Partner...

Who Should Attend

This training and information solution is for system engineering professionals (working directly for Compaq or an authorized Compaq Business Partner) who present, demonstrate, discuss, or service Compaq ProLiant Servers using the Linux operating system.

Also, from the bottom of the order page for course #2805:

Compaq cost center for Compaq employees only. Please enter in your 10 character cost center. Should you have any problems with your cost center, please contact: NACURRICULUM@COMPAQ.COM
I do not believe this offer has been made available to the general public at no cost.
