License suspect had WTC repair pass, but Port Authority did its own work [Tennessee License Scandal]

A photo ID pass for Sept. 5 found on one of the men charged with fraudulently obtaining a Tennessee driver's license from a Memphis woman gave him access to the six underground levels of the One World Center building.

But which tenant hired Sakher 'Rocky' Hammad, 24, to work on its sprinklers is lost, said Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Alan Hicks on Friday.

Hammad told federal authorities that he was working on the sprinklers six days before the twin towers were brought down by terrorists, court testimony revealed this week.

But Hicks said the Port Authority, which owned the building, did its own sprinkler work, and that any other work involving sprinklers would have been arranged by an individual tenant.

"We don't know (which one) because all our records were destroyed in the World Trade Center, as were some of the people who know that," Hicks said.

Small details about the five Middle Eastern men arrested Feb. 5 with Tennessee driver's license examiner Katherine Smith are slowly surfacing. Smith died Sunday in a fiery car crash, a day before she was to appear in court. It appears that Khaled Odtllah of Cordova shared the same 2840 Morning Lake Drive address at different times over the past year with Rocky Hammad, according to an online people finder database.

Odtllah and Hammad also spent time in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn in 2000 and lived about 22 blocks apart near New York Harbor.

Calls to the telephone number for Magic Plumbing and Heating Inc. on 93rd Street in Brooklyn were answered Thursday and Friday by a recording that said "Rocky's" voice-mail box was full. Hammad had the firm's business card, according to a government exhibit introduced at this week's detention hearing.

Hammad also had a New York City Police Benevolent Association card, a plastic Detectives Endowment Association Inc. for the Police Department of the City of New York card, two video rental cards, an ATM card and a First Consumers National Bank MasterCard.

Hammad's cousin, Abdelmuhsen Mahmid Hammad, also obtained a Tennessee driver's license last year. He's in the country illegally after overstaying a visa.

Venezuela-born Mohammed Fares, 19, allegedly told authorities that he needed a Tennessee driver's license to drive for Big Boss, an export-import clothing store in New York's garment district. Big Boss Enterprises bookkeeper Hussein Nasser said by phone Friday that he had received several recent inquiries about Fares, but that he'd never worked there. [CYA? Or did he apply for a job there?]

So far almost nothing is known of Mostafa Said Abou-Shahin, 26, a self-employed Egyptian carpenter living in the United State illegally.

All five men are being held without bail at the pretrial facility of the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis.

There was a report a couple of months back that an al Qaeda message had been intercepted that said 30 men were abroad "on the mission." We all thought at the time that the missing 10 or 11 were two more hijacking teams who did not accomplish their missions. But they might have been furnishing a different kind of support to the 9/11 mission.

If so, Odtllah's participation -- and apparent leadership -- is significant, since he has been in the country since what, 1989? A real sleeper.

Mind you, Hanjour was also in this country for several years.

And that is why we have it stored all over the country in temporary storage facilities and we have a very significant national debate at present as to where it should be stored permanantly.

It is a problem. No one wants the stuff. We should now begin work towards making less of it.

Your#2)...PICTURE of car.

Looks like a few 'Stinger' rocket type fuel elements 'burned' the passenger areas.
Everybody in the car would die.
No body to tell any tales.

Nice picture.
:-(

I remain optimistic. 30 years ago no one had any idea what to do with it other than bury it. Today we know how to process and condense some of it so we have less. Tomorrow and in the future I expect that we will have figured out how to process it in a manner that storage will be a non-issue.

Would homing beacons have been of any assistance to the hijacker pilots aiming for the tower

SURE - that's why that second jet did a last second CORRECTION (additional left bank angle) *just* before it crashed into WTC II ...

LOL!!!!

1989, 13 years ago, was the year of the Shamir/ Rabin Middle East Peace overtures, intended as a memorial to assassinated Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and a continuation of the 1978 secret peace accords which precipitated the attack on Sadat's life.

That attempt at an accomodation with Egypt in particular, bypassing the PLO in particular, may have resulted in the execution of plans to insert some long-term assets for a possible strike against the US at that time. Similarly, it could be that the crackdown against those who had murdered Sadat made it prudent for the radical Palestinians to relocate some of their personnel, lest another *Black September* like the one visited upon them by Jordan's King Hussein decapitate their leadership and thin their ranks simultaneously.

Was anything else of similar importance going on in the Middle East circa 1989....?

Re#16

Referring to the plumbers union;NY unions are pretty protective of ther jobs. You are correct. There is no way they would let an undocumented worker contracting in the WTC.This whole story smells.

Good Point Aristeides .........

Remote possibilities exist for placing a beacon but if weather was not VFR then such a backup to their plans is a valid possibility to consider.

Only a dumb@ss would trust a weather forecast that said clean and green for such a multiple target timed operation. And with their training I suspect IFR skills were lacking and such a signal or way point would'nt have done these pile-it's much good had the weather been overcast in NYC etc etc .....

Stay Safe

It's been reported that Odtllah traveled (drove, I think?) from NYC to Memphis on 9/11. I don't think it's been reported what he was doing in New York. Nor at what hour he left New York. Hadn't it become almost impossible to get to the Jersey side of the Hudson by mid-morning?

I wonder when Odtllah sold his gas station in Tennessee (hadn't the newsstand in the Newark train station where those two shaved guys worked been sold a few months before 9/11?) I wonder if Odttlah met Atta or the other ringleaders of the conspiracy in the weeks before 9/11.
