I agree that the higher level libs see their own hypocrisy at their every move -- that's why they need the 'talking points' to counter reasoned opposition (Goebbels would be proud). It's the lower-level libs that have replaced their former religions with liberal pap as their belief system.

I don't know if Tom's piece has been posted as a thread; I'm sure he'd be thrilled it it were posted...

I went to college in the 60's. All the flaming liberals that I knew (including part of myself) are all conservatives now. They either have been mugged or are having trouble accepting the absurd tax system.

"She can now score expert with her government model Colt."

Nothing like the threat of a mugging or worst to turn a liberal into a conservative. What discipline does she shoot that gave her an expert rating?

I think the old expression is. "If you are not a liberal in your twenties you have no heart. IF you have not become a conservative by your forties you have no brains."BWAHAHAHA. I think a lot of us who grew up in the turmoil of the 60's were liberals then and conservatives now.ITs not like David Horowitz is standing alone you know!

I was more liberal in college too. At one time I was studying education and had a class in "sociology of education" or something like that. The students were mostly women and middle-class whites. The prof, also a middle-class white, was constantly pointing out that poor and/or minority students had different life experiences than we did and that we as teachers should be aware of that issue when in the classroom. OK, fair enough, but he was always trying to make us feel guilty.

For example, once he mentioned that our students might go to the township trustee's office for poor relief: "Do you people even know where the township trustee's office is?" Like we were supposed to feel so bad because our families didn't need public assistance. Another time he was talking about houses for some reason (Reagan was still president, so homelessness was "in") and mentioned a stone house, "a real stone house, not just with stone siding like you people live in.." In that moment I realized that, far from being "caring," he was just a guilt-ridden, hostile pr*ck. That was the start of the death of my own guilty white liberalism.

On a side note: Once he gave us a quiz on some traditionally black cultural icons and terms: "What are chitlins? Who is Stagolee?, etc." He wanted to point out cultural bias in the SATS or something, but I, a white, middle-class girl, surprised him by knowing some of the terms. Oops!

Coming from a Democrat family, I was a "Cold War Liberal" back in the 60's supporting JFK and Martin Luther King but strongly anti-communist. But, of course, if Kennedy was around now saying the same stuff they'd call him a right-wing extremist like I have been called (and worse) since about 1970. And, of course, King's version or equality has been out of style since about '65 and even King himself started going the PC - "affirmative" action route towards the end.

How did you reconcile anti-communism and MLK's now known affections for collectivism back then? I'm not flaming...just curious.

I'm just a conservative college student who despised the liberals at my school. I make them look like fools when I debate them.

exactly, you have captured the difference precisely and it is what drives them insane. it is also why a conservative NEVER turns lib, but the reverse is true.

Many liberal leaders are former conservatives. It's important to recognize that there's a world of difference between the liberal leaders (who know that what they're pushing is a pack of lies) and the followers (who are blind to the corruption of their leadership).

Yes there is hope for college students

Unfortunately I don't think there is any hope for the Black population who are addicted to the democrat line of BS

Know one? I AM one! I believed in possibly all Liberal causes at the time except for abortion and nuclear power generation. I remember voting for the Right-to-Life party in NY as far back as 1976. I still think nuclear power is a terrible technology, and in light of 9/11/01, even more so.

I think it's important to note that reading a book explaining Libertarian ideas around 1986 began my conversion to "Conservativeism".

That's what my last line is about - by '65 or so, King was already compromised and had come out in anti-American fashion against our support of South Vietnam and also started going after freebies, Jesse Jackson-style. What I bought into (and still do) was seeing people and not color, if you'll pardon the cliche. Even in his "I Have a Dream" speech and book, "Why We Can't Wait", King was proudly American, non-hyphenated. And even then, he was getting criticism for not being "black enough" which is why I believe he took the left turn towards the end.

I hope you are right. I'm waiting for that to happen to my daughter-in-law. She started her first "real" job this week and even though it is with the State, she will still be in shock when she gets her first check. I tried to tell my son that mixed marriages do not work but he said, "oh she will change"! Right!! I know several young liberals who just graduated and were being supported by their Conservative parents, looking down on their money but taking it while holding their noses. You just want to shake them until their teeth rattle!

i will say this, though, i think those who have BEEN liberal are even more effective in arguing with/combating liberal logic, having been there and thought that themselves, don't you agree?

It's really true. BUMP!
