I think you forget that demographics are on Sanchez's side ---he will crush Perry in a Spanish debate just like he did Morales who learned it only recently.

Is Perry going to debate Sanchez in Spanish?? I actually liked Morales when compared to Sanchez, lol.

I'm a Texan too, but I'm not blind. We are following in California's footstep, it's not a matter of if, but when. Thanks to Bush and his fellow pandering lapdogs.

You're whistling past the graveyard Tex. Your state's demographics may not be as far along as California's but they're moving that way.

Tex must live in northern Texas, in an area that hasn't been swamped yet. But Tex, make no mistake about it, it's coming and it won't stop. Compliments el Presidente Jorge Bush.

Somehow that "Don't Mess With Texas" slogan doesn't sound so tough anymore...does it?

Yes, it is, lol. And soon, they will indeed be changing it to the previous mentioned name, "Don't Mess with Mexas".

What a great, informed post. Knowledge always tops ignorance. Lot of Texans with their head in the sand over the immigration issue.

Gimme a break. You can't have it both ways---the immigration issue works FOR the GOP. I don't LIKE IT, but it is silly to think that these pro-immigration issues aren't going to help Bush and the GOP. If you recall, Hispanics voted in significant numbers for Republicans PRIOR to Pete Wilson and his support of Prop 209. That turned them off.

It may have been right, but the politics of it was that it alienated many otherwise "conservative" Hispanics in CA. These were the same people who voted in significant numbers for Reagan and Dukmejian.

So you can't on the one hand complain about Bush and the GOP's "open" stance on immigration then think that is going to work in favor of the Dems. One or the other, but not both.

So, explain to me again how Bush won something like 45% of the Hispanic vote in Texas in his last gubernatorial run?

Let me add that the hysterics here seem to forget that Arizona, which is HEAVILY Hispanic, has two GOP Senators, 6 out of 7 GOP Congressmen, and recently had a GOP governor. (I don't still live there, so I don't know the gubernatorial situation---Hull may be out by now). Obviously, there is no correlation between Hispanics and Dem control of ANYTHING.

One thing we don't need is a lesson from California in how to elect conservatives.

LOL!!! Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? Well said!!!

Perry is trying to learn Spanish but I heard he's having some trouble with it --- Morales' Spanish wasn't as good as Sanchez's and that hurt him a lot in this election. The colonia people all said that the multimillionaire Sanchez seemed to be more like one of them.

The state of Texas is extremely conservative

I live in one of those extremely liberal counties --- you ought to travel down and look around at some of them. There's a lot of excitement for Sanchez ---he's promised free health care for every one ---don't forget how many people in Texas lack insurance. They get free health care already but for some reason think they are entitled to much more. There are several very fast growing counties where the main language is Spanish and those people adore Sanchez for promising to make Spanish at least equivalent to English. If Hispanics were so conservative, Morales would have had a few more votes. There are Conservative Hispanics but the newest arrivals definitely are not.

Ditto all the way!

Perry has done as much to hurt the GOP as GWB did to help. Perry has hurt down to the precincts level.

I live in Jasper County where Bill King got the death penalty for the dragging death of Byrd. People consider the "hate crimes" bill a slap in the face and Perry isn't popular.

I get the sense, though, that Sanchez is pretty radical. Morales would have been a better candidate.

He's also got this S&L thing going on, which somebody should hammer him over.

Sanchez will also be the first 'Hispanic' to get his butt kicked big time in a governor's race in Texas.
Texas voted over 60% Republican for President, and there are at present NO Dimocrats in statewide offices.
In fact, there are darned few Dim candidates for statewide office; the party can't even muster a few sacrificial lambs!

At my local voting precinct last night, where party caucuses are held following the closing of the polls, there were no Dims AT ALL last night!

"There was no provable wrongdoing by Sanchez involved."

Sanchez with his Hispano-centric ways will skillfully unite the NON-Hispanics of Texas, who at least for now are still in the majority!

Sanchez blanketed the tv with ads. Not only that, but his message was one of conservatism. My husband (who is from Brownsville) thought that Sanchez was a Republican.

I don't like the trend on this thread that just because you are Hispanic, that means you will vote for Sanchez. My husband's family came to the States about the same time that my family did (in the early 1900's). They are as conservative as you can get. As a matter of fact, my cousin-in-law is a judge down there and running for re-election as a Republican. The family I married into is filled with very successful doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.......Not everyone who is Hispanic is trying to live off the dole.

You are right on. I lived in Texas for some years and saw the mentality of most Mexican immigrants. At one company, they were all offered the same insurance benefits with a small premium as the whites were. NONE and I mean none accepted the insurance. We questioned several and were told they 'knew' they could get health care FREE at clinics and didn't need to pay the premiums. At that time, many of us concluded a majority of immigrants would someday ruin the economy and the system. It is happening, albeit slowly enough that so many uninformed Americans will not awaken until after the demise of states like Texas. It is time to circle the wagons, and our future as conservatives is doomed.
