I bet they will make Davy Crockett Gay and show the US as the evil agressor :)

The original 1960 John Wayne classic will forever be remembered as THE MOVIE.

I think Howard is trying to cast off his image of making "Safe" movies. Howard isn't gay btw...[previous post]

No doubt. That would be very sad. :(

"Whether that's going to be satisfactory to everyone. I doubt it.Translation: As long as it is politically correct, what does truth have to do with it?

I'd rather have Howard as producer and Oliver Stone as director. Stone is better with a camera, and the result would be more of a hoot. And the screenplay should be by the guys who did
Pearl Harbor.
I'd love to see Monica Lewinsky as the love interest. Gotta have a love interest.
I invite my fellow Freepers to post other casting ideas such as Martin Short as Davy Crockett, Dennis Quaid as Santa Ana, etc.

Jesse Ventura has to be in there somewhere!

I bet they will make Davy Crockett Gay and show the US as the evil agressor :) With Santa Ana leading a joint Gay and Lesbian task force to liberate the oppressed masses from the hate-filled homophobic Texas bigots.

Will there be a spot for Alec Baldwin in this production?

The ultimate Alamo film was part of PeeWee's Big Adventure -- wherein the viewer is shocked to learn that the Alamo has no basement.
But they do rent a dang fine car.

Will there be a spot for Alec Baldwin in this production? Jim Bowie. Hmm, nah, make him Travis or Houston. Have _David_ Bowie as Jim Bowie.

I think Russell Crowe should play Davey Crockett....LOL.....well, there has to be a part in this somewhere.

Ron Howard has a better grasp on reality than most in Hollyweird. He did a great job on Apollo 13 and I would give him the benefit of the doubt. Not to mention, if he screws it up he'll never be able to set foot in Texas again!

"And the screenplay should be by the guys who did Pearl Harbor."
This guy also wrote BRAVEHEART and WE WERE SOLDIERS(which he also directed).
As for Ron Howard, I like his movies. There is no HATE AMERICA in his movies.
Some of his better movies :
Night Shift
Cocoon
Willow
Backdraft
Apollo 13
Ransom
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
A Beautiful Mind
Let's give him a shot, even though I love the Duke's version (The extended version, not the crap version that's available on DVD).

"Our intention would be to work with as many people as possible I had very good experiences working that way when I was making television movies here," Howard said, "I'm not giving away the story." Too late, Ron ... the Mexicans won the battle, big guy.

Not so much a lack of faith in Ron Howard per se, as with anything Hollywood in general touches.

Gotta have Susan Sarandon, in there somewhere, but be forewarned, don't have the large tub of popcorn, when watching this movie. It will make life misarble for the theatre people! :-)
