Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

Monaco seized Ted, held him three days in four-point restraint, catheterized, sleep-deprived, interrogated and threatened in order to extort his signature on its prepared false confession in French which Ted does not read, write or speak.
In furtherance of this outrage, Monaco kidnapped Ted's wife and her brother (both U.S. citizens not charged with any crime), stole their U.S. Passports.
Additionally, Monaco used covertly acquired photos and tape recordings of the couple's children to threaten these children and pressure their father to sign the false confession.
The official fire report states multiple sources of ignition--to which (even under 72 hours of duress) Ted did not confess.
This report cites (in three places) a sudden conflagration one hour after Ted was rushed to Princess Grace Hospital for one hundred staples and multiple transfusions, treatment for defensive wounds caused by the two intruders.
Monaco in fact had in custody two Arab men arrested in the garages below La Belle Epoque whom it released.
Monaco has held Ted 977 days as it has slandered him with lies, blocked his mail, limited his calls to one a week.
Monaco has intercepted Ted's correspondence with his attorney (forbidden by its own law), delaying the current delivery six weeks--provided Monaco ever releases it.
Consular officials have not visited Ted since June--despite repeated demands by Congressional personnel that Ted be visited monthly.
Even now the Monaco court delays the delivery of the autopsy report in full to Ted's defense attorneys.
Amazingly, his pre-tend de-fenders do not protest the extorted false confession, the mail interception, the document stonewalling.
More alarming, his congressional representative and the State Department have gone to sleep, gone to the beach, are in la-la land.
An innocent American, honorable veteran, loyal husband, loving father, caring and accomplished medical professional is wrongly imprisoned 977 days in a foreign jail.
If State and Congress can intercede for Ed Pope and John Tobin, why not for Ted Maher?

Biography: Dr. Michael M. Baden
Dr. Michael M. Baden is a Board-certified, forensic pathologist who is a co-Director of the New York State Police Medicolegal Investigation Unit. From 1961 to 1986, Dr. Baden worked in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City and was the Chief Medical Examiner from 1978 to 1979. He was also the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for Suffolk County from 1981 to 1983. He has held professorial appointments at Albert Einstein Medical School, Albany Medical College, New York Law School and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
He was the chairman of the Forensic Pathology Panel of the U.S. Congress Select Committee on Assassinations that investigated the deaths of president John F. One reason being, Princess Caroline did not wish the event sullied by a family member who - as reported - is diddling with the palace butler. Or footman. Or chamberperson. Alas, poor Stephanie, we knew her well.
