No one's seen Powder?

Not only the most liberal piece of trash, but also the worst movie I'd seen, period.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

An excellent choice. What is interesting, in the 1940 story on which the film was loosely based ("Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates), there was none of the "enlightened space brother" stuff that permeated the movie. In the story, it was the robot who turned out to be the master, not Klaatu.

Checked your Freeper homepage.....did you know Sulla had a large port-wine birthmark? The Emperor Claudius did, too -- his is thought to have been from lead poisoning of his mother...

---------------------------------------

It could have been in the lead in the alloys that were used in the dishes and other eating utinsles oat the time. It used to be thought tomatoes were poinsonous. It turn out the tomatoes caused sickness because the acid in them extracted the lead in pewter and other alloys, causing them to get in the food and cause sickness.

High Noon --

"I can think of one reason why john wayne would have hated it. The whole town was on the side of the bad guys. No one was on the good guys side eccept the town drunk and the immigrant lady of unsavory reputation."

Interesting. I didn't see the whole town being for the bad guys. It's the old fear factor ... some were willing to face them as long as they thought there were many others standing with them. Deserted immediately when they found there were no volunteers; and they began to consider what they had to lose. Cowards. Lack of courage ... which was being for the bad guys by default.

Pacifists ...pacifism may be why John Wayne hated the film. "In The Sons of Katy Elder", John demonstrated ... how to "do it".

It is a bit of a reach to say it was about communists in hollywood, isn't it?

I may be wrong, but I thought tomatoes were a New World product, like potatoes, maize and popcorn.

If this is true, then it's unlikely the ancient Romans would have had tomatoes to cook in their lead/pewter utensils. They may have cooked other acidic foods in lead pots, however. And it's true that tomatoes were considered poisonous in many areas until the last century.

If nobody was in the room with Kane when he died (Nurse was clearly in another room.), who hear him mumble "Rosebud"?

Ummm, the soundman monitoring the microphone on the boom over Kane's head just out of the shot? <[8*)

Then, maybe the nurse had really good ears.

I pretty much agree, except that Martin Balsam was the foreman, Fonda was just a member of the jury.

Ah, yes. I'm sure you're correct. Probably got confused since Fonda did most of the talking. Thanks for correcting me.

"... I saw the movie and to me it seemed more like trying to give a man a fair trial,(that means beyond a reasonable doubt),...

No disrespect intended ... this is the reason so many criminals are walking the streets today. Repeat offenders of the worst kind of crimes as well as first time offenders. O. J. is an example of fair trial going awry. Many verdicts are/have been later recinded due to minor technicalities. Credible eyewitnesses are being accused of lying in order to get on television or insinuated to be bias, etc.etc. ect. It has gotten to the point the victim is made into the criminal often and destructively.

Gosh, Clinton didn't get impeached after giving secrets to China, Whitewater, fraud, lieing, misuse of executive orders, power of pardons, etc. and his many other tentacles in nefarious endeavors.

Juries are charged by the judge to only consider the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defense and decide on the facts ... we have strayed far from this ...

12 Angry Men were swayed by what if's and could be's ..... paving the way...........

The Bedford Incident is a bit of a stretch, I admit, especially against some of the heavyweights previously discussed. Nomination withdrawn.

I'd say that "The Majestic" had influences of liberal propaganda.

Is is clearly evident by the way the movie villifies the U.S. government of the 1950s as being hysterical, irrational and insane for viewing the character played by Jim Carrey as a Communist.

Then, in wonderful left-wing fashion, the movie tries to cloak Communism into something great; the Constitution. Now, I do think that the Constitution protects even Communist groups by allowing free assemblage. However, the takeover of the U.S. government, post WWII, by Communist forces would not have been allowed. Thus, it's a mixed bag. They do give some legitimacy to the Constitution, that even us Conservatives can view as a win in that it is able to protect all. However, as said earlier, it's the typical liberal fashion of trying to cloak something bad, or Unconstitutional, into something good; The Constitution. It reminds me of the way the Supreme Court, under Left-Wing Whack Jobs, has spat on the Constituion, twisted, and manipulated it's meaning.

I still sort of liked the movie (The Day The Earth Stood Still), despite the liberal message. Trivia quiz: The name of the robot? Funniest part of the movie: Two doctors discussing Klaatu. Doc 1: "He says that people on his planet have conquered disease and live for hundreds of years!" Doc 2: "You don't say," as he opens a pack of cigarettes and hands one to Doc 1. ROTFLMAO.

You are right, nobody ate tomatoes in Europe until the 16th century. According to the California tomato growers site, it was northern Europeans who thought that the tomatoe was poisonous until the 19th century. It may interest you to know that that site says: 'This same fear persisted among colonists in the United States until the early 19th century; but in 1812, the Creoles in New Orleans put their cooking on the map with their tomato-enhanced gumbos and jambalayas'. I guess this makes you the expert on this subject. Since this is off-topic I will refrain from further discussion of this subject here.

Fried Green Tomatoes
Thelma & Louise

275 Posts and no one mentioned Fried Green Tomatoes! All three of these movies depicted men as jerks.

Perhaps these three aren't the most liberal, but they need to be included in the pack as a particular kind.

In the Sci-Fi category Waterworld was a total plot capitulation to the eco-weenies.

"The Postman" was even worse. Kostner's plan to revive the USPS and federal government was enough to bring out the anarchist in anyone. Will Patton's Nietzsche-spouting warlord was way over the top, and the "gentle people" Kostner encounters were straight out of 1960s mythology.
