Brussels, April 4, IRNA -- About 4000 people took part in a demonstration in the Belgian city of Antwerp, 50 kms from Brussels, Wednesday evening in support of the Palestinian people.
The demonstration was organised by the Antwerp-based Arab European League (AEL).
In a statement released today, the AEL said that after the demonstration ended riots broke out between groups of Arab youth and the police in the streets of Antwerp.
The police used water canons and tear gas to disperse the crowds that reacted in destroying police cars and other cars and shops.
''What happened today in Antwerp is a signal to the Belgian government that should be well understood. Arabs in this country expect their government to react in calling back its ambassador to Israel and in imposing economic sanctions on the Israeli apartheid regime.''
''Arabs and Muslims in this country (Belgium) are determined to keep on acting in all manners permitted by the law to realize these two demands, '' it said.

Belgium, huh? Ari Fleischer was right.
We have got to stop this from happening in America, if it isn't already too late.
So, you have to wonder if the europeans have figured it out yet. Are they going to allow themselves to be blackmailed, are they going to stand up and demand these people behave in a civilized manner, or is it too late? Has europe become an Islamic continent?
It may indeed be too late already. There are many more Arabs in Europe (estimates I have read vary wildly, from 15 million to 54) than in the US (some 5 million).
The Palestinian PR machine and its cult of victimhood is very effective. Politicians who are in the pocket of Arab commercial interests agitate against Israel louder than ever before. Today Jürgen Möllemann, vice-chairman of the small but influential FDP party and president of the German-Arab Association, justified Palestinian violence with these words: "What if it were Germany that was occupied? I too would resist and resist violently. I am a reserve officer with the paratroopers. It would be my duty to fight back. And I would do it not only within my own country but also in the aggressor's country."
Press coverage by news magazines like "Der Spiegel" (sort of like a combination of Time, Newsweek and The Economist) is almost entirely one-sided against Israel. It seems to be much the same in other European countries.
I don't think that Europeans believe in their own civilization any longer.
It's all balanced out by the United States' unilateral, blind support for Israel. Therefore, one might ask, "Is the United States going to allow itself to be blackmailed [by Israel], are we going to stand up and demand these people behave in a civilized manner, or is it too late? Has the United States become a Zionist state?" You'll probably rant and rave like a lunatic over this statement but I, for one, am tired of our country acting like we've been annexed by Israel.
