My sister is married to a priest and they have their kids in govt. schools. They seem to think they're good enough to keep the kids in. No matter how many articles from FR I have sent to her, she still turns the other way. She also feels that her kids need to know how to live in the real world. Like homeschooled kids don't know how? It really makes me want to shake the you know what out of some people and tell them to get a clue. Homeschooling is not good enough for people like her. I know it's not for everyone but there are alternatives to govt. schooling.

Our relatives give us the same song and dance. Meanwhile, of the 9 children (6 of schooling age) that my 3 siblings have produced:

By the sheer Grace and blessing of God, none of my children have any of those issues above (despite the fact that my 12 year old is an unmitigated knucklehead). All three perform WELL above their peer group in the public schools (as adjudged by standardized test scores), both girls are in ballet, one is in piano, my son is learning guitar and self-defense and the TV and/or game machine stays off except on Friday nights and Sat afternoons where Dad or Mom has final say over what is watched/played, and yet, when the adults get together to talk about how the kids are doing, I'M THE WEIRDO for homeschooling/private schooling my kids!!!!

And, I forgot to add, that of COURSE part of the problem according to my family, is that we do, after all, live in a racist society (we are black).
BIG SIGH.
I can't think about it too much or I'll run off a cliff somewhere.

I thought we weren't supposed to call 'em "queer" anymore. Wish they'd make up their damn minds.

It don't matter anyway, they'll never get around to liking what I call 'em...

Private faith based schools or homeschooling are the only way to go. My children are in a Private Christian school. I am Catholic, but I felt the the Christian school was more compatible with our moral beliefs as a family.

The more I learn about the (governement)public school system, the more happy I am that we made the choice that we did.

Its funny to think that it is "suspect" to NOT let the kids watch whatever they wish to on TV and engage in whatever sort of unsupervised pastimes they choose.

I would think those who fail to monitor the kids consumption of such trash are guilty of child neglect.

What every happened to teaching:

1.) Reading/writing
2.) Math
3.) History
4.) Science

People graduate from these schools and can not read/write or even fill out a simple EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION!

But they know how to put on a condom, etc..

This is pitiful.

Where are the "Christians"? They are asleep and a DISGRACE

Folks, you do have rights and can have your children excused from any inappropriate material. At least in my son's middle school, they are respectful of parents' wishes. Because of more rigorous academic requirements, the previous touchy-feelie semester of "life education" was mercifully replaced with a few days of basic reproduction and gestation in biology class which every 12-year-old should already know.

However, less than 10% of the parents showed up at a preview of this info and one incredible dolt asked "how" they were going to demonstrate the condoms. The teachers just about passed out and the principal said this was an urban legend - never happened in any school she knew about. Parents said they were embarrassed to talk to their kids and wanted the school to do it or at least give them books to give to their kids. Mind you, the school is right next to both the library and Barnes and Noble and all of these are affluent folk with internet access and presumably had sex themselves at least once if they managed to produce a seventh grader. I think this embarrassment/ignorance is the main reason these programs are tolerated despite their proven tendency to increase teen sex. One mom actually asked if kids would be told to abstain. Principal said, "You're the parent. You're going to tell them." Good for her.

I'm glad you brought that up. We're "white", and our homeschooling group has a number of wonderful families . The great part? No one even notices "color". We have some from China as well. We have all colors (but no purple). The children all play together. Because the "race issue" is not an issue, it doesn't exist. There's no difference at all. The "racist society" is kept alive in the public schools. That's where it is bread and nutured!

PS....

We have all colors (but no purple).

As a matter of after thought, we do have a "purple" dad that pops in once in a while. I think he has really high blood pressure or something. I hope he takes medication. I worry for him whenever I see him around.

Herpes and genital warts (#1 cause of cervical cancer) transmission is NOT, nor ever has been prevented by condoms.

There is no such thing as safe sex, except it is a media myth created by the purveyors of the sexual revolution.

Ah, but Sicon has a point.

A condom, ditributed by institutions/ authorities, is both a license and prophylactic. In the heat of passion, only the license part, the most important aspect, is often remembered.

Sounds like you are doing quite well with "your" children. You hit on something about relatives in the public schools.

My sister has six kids. The oldest, age 17, may have Parkinson's Disease, the 15 year old girl has a growth disorder and has been on growth hormones for about three years, the 12 year old has been labeled as having disabilities. He can't comprehend or remember things. I told my sister to homeschool but the bottom line is it would cramp her style. Sometimes I think God gives us problems such as the ones mentioned as a wake up call to take better care of the family.

Just my .02 worth.

Since their (condom) failure as a prophylaxis is documented and well known, might we assume that those handing them out like halloween candy are engaged in licensing sex rather than preventing disease?

Dear Sicon: You are wrong re your statements of effectiveness of male latex condoms-Physicians Consortium reports that, at best, they are no more than 85% effective against HIV. THe National Institute of Health recently issued a report that condoms are not proven to protect against a large number of STD's, Physicians Consortium reports that, for some major STD's that are skin/lesion to skin/lesion transmitted, they offer no protection at all. One such STD is HPV human papiloma virus, the major cause of genital cancer in women in the USA. Many reports note male latex condom failure rates re pregnancy for women in first year of use from 23 to 72 %. This is due to many factors. Condom slippage. Condom spillage. Condom tears. Poor condom technique. Condom defects. Microscopic holes in latex condom fabric itself. Failure to cover infected areas. The Physicians Consortium are lobbying for the US COngress to require condoms to be labeled with a warning disclosing the known significant failure rates of same re preventing HIV, STD's & pregnancy. Thank you for your interest in this post. RWBaral

Why is this article so full of typos and misspelled words? Is this an actual article published somewhere or a vanity you put together?

We must also make a concerted effort to help parents get the voucher programs they need to give their kids an alternative to Perversion 101!
