Clinton in running for TV job

From correspondents in Washington
27apr02

FORMER US president Bill Clinton could soon start a gig as the co-host of a morning television program, US media reported today.

ABC-TV's gossip show "Extra" reported that Clinton is a candidate to succeed retiring television host Bryant Gumbel as the co-anchor of "The Early Show" - a breakfast news program on rival network CBS-TV.

The ex-president, who left office 15 months ago, already has been busy in retirement: his William J Clinton Foundation is assembling teams of business experts to provide financial, marketing and other technical advice to owners of small businesses in Harlem, where he maintains an office.

Earlier this month he took on a new job as a senior adviser to two investment funds run by a cut price grocery store tycoon, the Los Angeles-based Yucaipa Companies said.

And he is in the process of penning his memoirs, set for publication in 2003, for publishing house Alfred A Knopf, which paid him an advance of more than $US10 million ($A18.48 million) - the largest ever for a non-fiction book published in the United States.

Even assuming that he would, when's he going to find the time to sleep? Sleep would take up the valuable time that he needs for eating, drinking, fundraising (for his party, his wife and himself) and the all important nookie.

Oh, I hope this happens... It'll be like the XFL (cheerleaders included!)...

Big ratings for a week, and then a drop into the abyss.

I don't think he'll do it, but if he does he'll be just right. He can cry on cue a la Ron Brown funeral, he can swear convincible and look at people in the eye and tell them how honest he is, and he is not a good actor but he gets by. At least he convinced enough people to vote for him twice. I'm sure he'll do well in the BS business.

..-If ADOLF HITLER had had TV up his sleeve, the way the CLINTONS do now, he would have won World War II- =

It sure seems that way these days....or that we're being asked in very clear terms to pick sides. The media stalled for a moment in their headlong race downhill after 9-11, but picked up speed soon after and now are celebrating all things ugly with gusto and a lack of concern for the truth or the future. There's a large group of Americans who get it....but the media is blind.

Let Clinton get in front of the nation daily...the better to draw a distinction between the actor and President Bush, a real man. Clinton divides, Bush unites. Clinton builds himself up at the expense of others, Bush builds others up at his own expense. Clinton left us one mess after another, Bush continues to clean up the messes while remaining a gentleman with honor.

Let Clinton "act" on a TV show. We will have the most successful Republican fundraising tool in history. (^:

non-fiction book my hiney! That scum bag doesn't know when he's telling the truth or a lie anymore. I will never watch the early show. I didn't watch it anyway. Not after I wrote to Bryan Dumball and told him I thought he treated Oliver North badly while he was doing an interview. Do you know that Dumball wrote me back and basically said, "SO? What of it, it's my show."

No kidding! It was on a postcard. I think I still have it somewhere. CBS has no class in this department, IMHO.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Some of us think that the liberal poster who goes by the screen name of "Murraysmom" might be your senator. If it's true, I know what you mean. When we were stationed in California, our senators were Diane (Betty Croker)Fienstien and Barbra Boxer. YIKES! I'll drink to that, Cheers!

Fascinating! I've developed a test for liberal Posters All you have to do is compare their EEG to this chart of a Liberal's Cerebral function.

Cheers TC! Great Thread BUMP!!!

"...if they gave him the show, his ratings would slay Gumball's"

You know, he's right. Gumballs's show "sucked for air."

I strongly suspect that Clowntoon doesn't "lie" in the usual sense of the word -- he really believes each statement he makes at the moment he utters it.
