A report released Friday by the right-wing Family Research Council claims gay men are avid child abusers.
The report, "Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse," says that "there is a body of evidence indicating a definite link between homosexuality and pedophilia."
"Statistics show that homosexual men, who represent less than 3 percent of the adult male population, commit a disproportionate number (one-third or more) of the cases of child sexual molestation," the report said.
The FRC justifies its research claiming that gays and lesbians comprise between 1 and 3 percent of the population. The accepted figure is 10 per cent.
The report was immediately denounced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
NGLTF Executive Director Lorri L. Jean called it "methodologically unsound, totally lacking in credibility, and a blatant attempt to put forward a homophobic agenda in the name of research."
"The American people must recognize this so-called report for what it truly is: nothing more than hateful, pathetic, and misleading propaganda that has little to no basis in fact," Jean said in a statement.
"Its solitary goal is to create an atmosphere of hate while capitalizing on tragic events unfolding within the Catholic Church.
"The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community will not stand idly by while foot soldiers for religious fanatics wrap their tool of discrimination in the guise of scientific inquiry."
As proof of its claim that gay men account for one third of all child abuse cases, the FRC report cites only a single study conducted by researcher Kurt Freund, and reported in the Journal of Sex Research. However, the FRC report fails to mention that Freund's study actually finds that "homosexuals are no more likely than heterosexuals to be attracted to children.
"The so-called 'researchers' at FRC are trying to mask the fact that even the research they cite to make their point actually proves them wrong," Jean said.
The Family Research Council has a long history of producing misleading and disreputable "studies" spreading lies about gay and lesbian people.
A 1999 FRC report entitled "Homosexual Activists Work is to Normalize Sex with Boys" relied heavily on discredited psychologist Paul Cameron, as did several previous "studies" on homosexuality.
In the 1980's Cameron was expelled from the American Psychological Association, and at a 1985 conservative conference proposed "the extermination of homosexuals." He has also called for tattooing (essentially branding) people with AIDS, and castrating homosexuals.
After Matthew Shepard was murdered in a hate crime, Heather Farish of FRC rejected any responsibility on the part of the anti-gay right wing, saying "Don't blame AA because a drunk was beat up."
An FRC press release issued the day of Shepard's funeral said that "homosexuals are included in a list of sinners, who, if unrepentant, will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Robert Knight, Gary Bauer and other FRC staff have portrayed homosexuality as a "deathstyle" and "life destroyer" and maintained that gays are less productive than other Americans. FRC also characterizes GLBT people as a threat to American security.

In the second place, Dr. Cameron's work is far from discredited and he quite the American Psychological Association for what were prescient reasons. His research on homosexuals closely dovetails with the University of Chicago's research on the perverts.

There is nothing to presume that they would like to have older, worse looking, worn out pooftas for their pleasures, not young and fresh boys.
And to realise this, you don't need a global research effort by statisticians and politically correct sociologists, do you?
This is no reason for the division into
the "all gays are saints and must be exulted as a group (GLSEN position)", and
the "all gays are sinners and must be punished as a group" camps.
Why not just punish those that break the law and leave it at that ?
In that way, more gays would be jailed for sex offences than their proportion in the population and those that choose to lead otherwise legal lives would be able to do so. I figure that should make most people happy.
My suspicion about pedophile homosexuals is that they are not necessarily driven by sexual need but by a compulsion to dominate another, physically and sexually, and they target little boys because children are society's most vulnerable members. The really deviant, whether hetero or homo, kill their victims after raping and/or torturing them.
Normal men want young women because they produce healthier offspring than older women (older meaning over 28 years of age.) It is all hardwired into men's psyches.
Also, Dr. Cameron never called for the extermination of homosexuals. He mentioned that some primitive societies did it while he expressed abhorrence for the idea.
