A day in the life of President Bush (photos); 6/6/02

In what can be called a massive restructuring and combining of government agencies, President Bush addressed the country this evening and outlined his proposal for elevating the Department of Homeland Security to a cabinet position. In this new cabinet position, the following agencies will be consolidated into one mission, homeland security: the Coast Guard, the Border Patrol, the Customs Service, Immigration officials, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition to sharing information among all of these different agencies, the Department of Homeland Defense will be charged with four tasks:

1. To control our borders and prevent terrorists and explosives from entering our country.

2. To work with state and local authorities to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

3. To bring together our best scientists to develop technologies that detect biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, and to discover the drugs and treatments to best protect our citizens.

4. To review intelligence and law enforcement information from all agencies of government, and produce a single daily picture of threats against our homeland. Analysts will be responsible for imagining the worst, and planning to counter it.

The President urged Americans to call their representatives and encourage them to support the plan. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I have a brother in San Diego and it's one of my favorite places to visit. Your climate is delightful.

And we'll all be praying that you keep getting better!

We're supposed to have a really beautiful weekend.....upper 70's and not too much humidity. It just has to hang on until Sunday afternoon so Graduation is outside (the gym is not air conditioned, so if it rains, we die!)

rintense, thank you. I got home from Curves for Women (gasp, pant - but I feel great), and President Bush was already nearly ten minutes into his speech. He sounded wonderful, and everything he said was spot on. I especially loved the part where he asked the American people for their support, and to contact their "Congresscritters" and urge them to support his effort. (My e-mails are already on their way out to my well-meaning, but bubble-headed Congresswoman (Lois Capps - D-California), and my Senators Feinstein (ptui!), and Boxer (barf!).

**I read today your part of the state is having its first heat wave of the season. How hot did it get and more importantly will the electricity hold out? **

The past 2 weeks have gone from 83 to 101. Today we had a cooling trend...it was only 98. I'll have to check on the humidity index. We actually have humidity here. blah! What's crazy is that many evenings the 'Delta Breeze' comes through and cools it down to even 65 or 70 through the summer (in the evenings). Our whole house fan helps tremendously during those times.

California is such a huge state with many climates. I've just given you the Sac-a-tomatoes version. :o)

I'm a little behind in all the goings on at the Dose. So tell me what happened to you? why is everyone asking if you are feeling better. Or is it that accident you and your daughter had awhile back ago? I don't want to seem ignorant.

Looks like Gephardt and Daschle are hiding out tonight as they are still residing in the hall of shame for their general behavior. They'll be skulking out in a few days to criticize the entire process. They will be "troubled and "concerned" FV

How many extra meatballs do I need to make.........anyone else coming? :o)

btw, Eric has to be at the recruiting station at 6:30 Wednesday morning, so I may be freeping you for moral support (as one who knows what I'm going through) next week! All this busyness is actually helping postpone my tears for a while.

You know, as I was listening to his speech, it reminded me of any major corporation going through a restructuring and reorganization! BTW, you are one incredible party-prep queen!
