I wouldn't go that far. There'd be plenty of reason and opportunity for the mob to have moved in during the building-up phase of the SLC Olympics, and plenty of opportunity for them to have been paid under the table as the building deadline came nearer.

It's still a stretch to think that Mr. Smart was tangled with them, but it's not out of the question.

Good points, not a bad theory; one that should be looked into.

Note also, that if the father knew Ricci from the construction biz (like he may have known Edmonds from the escort biz), Ricci could have been part of a crew hired by the father to kidnap the girl for ransom money from the Francoms and others. This, obviously, would only be conceivable if the father was in desparate financial straits, from blackmail or some other sub rosa activity.

Nothing's out of the question until the actual truth is known. But some refuse to accept that...that's their right. If someone has absolute, irrefutable, undeniable proof that NO family member is involved here, either directly or indirectly, Enquirer or no, I'd love to see it. Until then, speculation is just as acceptable as anything else.

All good points, PW. The Mormons are a nice bunch, but I think they would be hard-pressed to know how to deal with extortion attempts by the mob. (Not like us savvy New Yorkers and Chicagoans). Ed Smart is very lowkey and softspoken, and perhaps doesn't know how to stand up to such thuggery. Maybe he lets his brother Tom deal with such things, much as he has let Tom be his spokesman (until recently) in this case.

I for one do not expect nor want the cops to tell me or anyone important information that would jeopardize any case...

I think we have had massive disinformation, even today, and that is a-okay with me as long as we get the truth down the line and also, hopefully , it works ...

What is this whole NE story I keep reading about and why do folks think there's anything to it? For Gawd's sake they're the ones who write about "MAN HAVING ALIEN'S BABY!!!" and "JOAN RIVERS SPROUTS A SECOND HEAD OUT OF HER A$$!!!"
