Brosnan Provokes Outrage
Pierce Brosnan has outraged Americans by stating the terrorist tragedy of September 11th will fade from people's minds. Families of the victims of the attack, which claimed 3,000 lives, have demanded an apology from the star, who said he would not steer clear from action movies with terrorism in the storyline following the terrorist action against America. He says, "The Bond films work exclusively by themselves. People go to these movies to escape from life. Hollywood is going to go back to making these kind of action movies. And September 11th will fade in people's minds because there is money to be made. It's about commerce." Stephen Push of the Famulies September 11 organization is outraged by the Irish born actor's comments - and has demanded a public apology. He says, "For a public figure like him to suggest the memory of that day will fade is irresponsible. Everyone in the public eye should be using their prominence to remind people of the event and not to become complacent. Mr. Brosnan should retract that unfortunate remark and make an apology".

These actors seem to hate business and America, even though they are in business IN America.
Self-hating actors. Dummy, James Dummy.

This guy is absolutely correct. In fact, it has already faded to the extent that the RATS can block Bush's moves with impugnity. The media has resumed its anti-American bias with impugnity. Bushwhackers are now flailing away with no regard for the need for wartime unity. ACLU is demanding constitutional protections for the killers and their abettors.
What do you disagree with in Pierce's comments? Just wait till the elections and watch as RATS are elected in far greater numbers than a rational, concerned and knowledgeable electorate would produce. Then you will see Brosnan was right on the money.

Born in Ireland, but citizen where?
He certainly reflects the amoral, ahistorical, mercenary nature of Hollywood culture.
As a European, used to dealing in piles of innocent corpses, his outlook is understandable if insensitive.
To: Benrand
Well, as long as it wasn't the REAL James Bond.
Sean Connery, that is.

To: Benrand
Pierce Brosnan will NEVER be considered James Bond.

Uh, why ? Brosnan is IRISH. How many Irish massacres can you recall ? It's politically incorrect, but we DO tend to forget even traumatic events. . .

"For a public figure like him to suggest the memory of that day will fade is irresponsible." Why? He's entitled to his opinion. It may be wrong, but so what? That doesn't make it irresponsible. There is nothing in his statement that reflected hatred of America.
Let's not get all PC on this.

Brosnan is right. Do you really think that people are awake to the ongoing threat we face from Islamists? They are all asleep. 9/11 just caused them to hit the snooze button. 9/11 has faded from memory.
To: Benrand
By and large, he's correct. Nothing to get upset about here.
To: Benrand
Memory will fade. It always does.
To: Benrand
It's actually not the most outrageous thing I've heard. Mind the fact that we are only getting a snippet of his comments, but compare this to what Bill Mauer said.
Brosnan comes off sounding insensitive perhaps, but it is true to say that all pain fades in time. Life does go on. Pearl Harbor today does not resonate like it did in 1942. But there is a way to say this when people are still grieving. This is where he has messed up.
And yes, there is money to be made. Keep in mind many people on this very site think the thing to do it re-build the WTC just as it was. And in those new buildings, money will be made.
If you are really offended by his comments, skip his next Bond film. That's the loudest way to talk back to these people.
To: Benrand
Not really an issue - Hollywood has steered clear of "offending" Muslims by making them bad guys anyhow, as in The Sum Of All Fears's transition to rightwing baddies from the originals.

He's right! the memory of 9-11 WILL fade from people's memories, and indeed it already has started. It's hard to concentrate of our s0-called War on Terror because so much time and energy is spent yelling about protecting the rights of the animals caged in Gitmo and Johnny Taliban and Jose Padilla...and all the hysterical shreiks against ethnic profiling and jumpstarting the mid-east "peace process". Lets drop the charges against Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, because the people on his plane were mean to him. And so on and so on ad nauseum. The victims families still bear fresh wounds, and alwasy will, and most of us on Free Republic will NEVER forget...but I don't think we represent the general public, sad to say.
