Fresno, CA's "Support Our Troops" Rally 7-19-02
7/19/02

Posted on 07/19/2002 9:49:36 PM PDT by mtngrl@vrwc

Tonight's FReep of the peaceniks in Fresno, CA was a blast! The first thing I want to say is "Chadsworth, you are a treasure. How we have missed you!" I didn't get any pictures of this fabulous FReeper in action, but I think a few others did. He stands alone, you guys. Nobody, not one person, who has the slightest inclination towards honking to show support for our cause gets by this man without hitting their horn. He begs, he pleads, he cajoles - and people who might normally just drive by honk for us!

We also really enjoyed having Chad'sworth's wife, Ladyinred, join us tonight for the first time. Thanks for coming and spending the evening with us, Lady!

It wasn't as hot tonight (97 degrees) as it was last Friday night (109 degrees), thank goodness! We counted eight peaceniks across the street from us tonight. We outnumbered them again with eleven FReepers and patriots.

I saw a peacenik holding up a new sign tonight. It said "Silence and ignorance aren't patriotic. Join us." The sure as heck can't be talking about us because we aren't ignorant and we certainly aren't silent. I was thinking that this sign might be one that we might use ourselves, except that we would never be as rude to those driving by as that.

Something a little different happened tonight. As I was holding up my sign on the corner of FReeper Island, a person driving by rolled down their window and threw his almost empty cup (which still had a little orange soda in it) at me. It bounced off of my sign. These people who oppose war aren't as peaceful as one would think, are they?

FReepers attending tonight were:

A big thanks to all who could be there tonight! To those who couldn't make it, we missed you and hope that you will be able to join us next week.

We had so much fun!
It was quite an eye opener for me watching Chadsworth in action! He really does get into this, and I have decided that when he retires, it is off to San Francisco for us where he can be one of the street entertainers!

I enjoyed sitting by Sheila and listening to her sing her special songs, and it was just so inspiring seeing the response from all of the cars! The peaceniks sure don't get that great a reception!

Thanks for your report and great pictures, mtngrl!

But I can't believe some slob would actually throw his drink cup at you like that. Too bad you couldn't get his license plate number and report him.

Anyway, thanks for being there and supporting America's finest!

Hey, neat pics! I'm glad to hear that you are all out showing your support for our troops. Anyone know of anything similar going on in Sacramento? I'm always so out of the loop.

Great report and pictures, mtngrl! You all look fantastic! And, sorry to hear about the cup-slinging anti-American trash-throwing lowlife. You do have to be careful out there. At a rally in Nov, 2000, some jerks threw big bags of garbage at us! So, there are idiots everywhere. You guys, take care! But, you "done us proud" - so thank you one and all!

Thanks for the kind words-and the good pics.

I had alot of fun tonight - I found out that someone should go into the horn repair business in Fresno, or show some of the drivers where the button is. Most of them were willing to Honk for Support of Our Troops if they got a little encouragement. A couple of them indicated they wanted to make love, so I told them where the zoo was.

I was proud that the Ladyinred was able to join us, she is a great addition to our group, and with a little encouragement, (uh hmmm) she might join us again.

One of the highlights was a serviceman in his car who took off his military helmet and waved it out the window at us while honking! Must have driven the peaceniks wild!

Right on mtngrl and all my new Fresno FReeper Friends!

Looks and sounds like you guys had a super time! It's cool to be able to put FReeper faces on all of you I got to meet in real time, for the 1st time last Sat.

mntngrl ~ SO COOL to see you again last Sat. I wish we'd had time to catch up. The time went by FAST! I was visiting w/ a bunch of folks I hadn't met, then realized I didn't speak much w/ you, or Counter Counter Culture. The day should have been twice as long! Good times were had by all !

Peace and Happiness, Pattie

On occasion I've had experiences with rude drivers while standing curbside waiting to cross streets...

One time I nearly got hit when someone- who was too impatient to let store customers cross the street- ran a stop sign. I managed to slap the witch's car real hard as it went by and at the same time let out a hideously loud 'dying coyote' call. The woman, thinking she had hit someone's pet dog, just about lost her cookies- we could see her freaking out and flopping her arms around inside that car like she was having a heart attack, and it was positively hilarious. The crowd behind me even gave me a round of applause.
