that our old zoning & code statutes no longer apply because we are now under International Zoning (according to the City Attorney)

hmmmm..something doesn't quite sound right here.

So no, the farmers didn't 'start' the crisis, the eco wackos did.

But, it doesn't matter that the ecoterrs started all this. Jeb got some awards from them so they must be defended. Jeb's dreamy and must be defended at all costs. nevermind a bunch of dirty farmers with their grubby blue jeans. They don't count. We can always inmport our food from Mexico and other more enlightened places.

Don't you even get it? This is about making things fair. The government takes land from rich fat people so things can be fair. The right to own stuff has to be set aside for the more important rights. We all have a right for things to be fair or it won't be ...uh..fair. ;-)

Gubmint DOES have a legal right to take private land but only for specified uses like building armories, etc. and ONLY with just compensation.

You're right, government only has the right to take land for public use, but the problem is that "public use" has been so broadly defined by the courts as to be meaningless. "Just compensation" is another really sticky term; usually whatever is "just" is determined by some socialist judge who wants to stick it to the poor landowner.

And if the goverment wants to "take" your property by regulating the heck out of it, they don't have to pay you anything unless you can show that the regulations have caused you to lose all economic value of the land. It's really not a fair system at all.

You are arguing that the Gov't has the right to force people off there privately owned lands?!? Where does the Gov't obtain this authority?

It's called "Eminent Domain," and yes, the government can take just about any land it wants, so long as a "public purpose" can be articulated, and pay you what it decrees is "just compensation." If you don't agree that the compensation that they are giving you is "just," you get to argue it in court in front of a judge that works for the government!

Talk about stacking the deck!

What a silly thread. I keep stating over and over I do not know all that much about the Everglades situation, and eveyone keeps responding to me as if I never stated that. I've been involved with several transactions in North Florida where private indivuduals sold conservation easements to water management districts and other private groups such as Ducks Unlimited - but as I'm told, I do not know what I am talking about and conservation easements are "evil". LOL!!

I know there is some "funny" stuff going on with environmentalists and such in coastal areas - I do not deny that. I have heard of stories from other States where private individuals are getting screwed. I know it happens. Its hilarious that when I respond to a blanket statement about conservation easements, I get a bunch of obnoxious posts. I love FR!!

Ex-President Bill Clinton told an audience in Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday that he would personally fight "in the trench" alongside the Israel Defense Forces to repel an attack on the Jewish state by Iraq.

"I would grab a rifle and get in the trench and fight and die," Clinton proclaimed, according to a report by the Canadian Press news service.

Please...please...please...please :D

Would it be bad taste to start gathering contributions to give to the Iraqi soldier's family? :D
