[history]
Until this year, most Californians wanting to use absentee ballots had to make requests before each election.
Not anymore. All registered voters now can get permanent absentee status, which had been available only to people with certain disabilities.
A single request allows a voter to use absentee ballots indefinitely -- a convenience for someone who doesn't care to go to the neighborhood polling place.

A 3rd grader could figure out how to manipulate California's absentee voting system and for some reason suspect 100% of these 3rd graders will vote democrat.

"Permanent absentee" = Dead people votes

-- a convenience for someone who doesn't care to go to the neighborhood polling place. Apathetics to damned lazy to make it down the street or around the block. Yah, those are the type of people we want casting votes.

"Permanent absentee" = Dead people votes This would make it convenient for dead Maryland Democrat voters

Maybe the remaining republicans can put up a bill that would replace permanent absentee voting status to one that expires, say after 150 or 200 years.
On second thought, nope, the pubs probably won't get that passed.

"This would make it convenient for dead Maryland Democrat voters" Dead people are passe. It is so much easier to put illegal aliens on busses and take them to the polling place. Now they can skip the bus trip. I wonder how many languages the voter forms will be printed in?

We'll never see a Republican elected in California again. Simon had his chance but the pay phone suit was not the democrats doing.

permanent absentee status ?
Isn't that what Congress and the Clinton administration assumed and pulled on us acts-wise when they were asked to do their duty under the Constitution in the late 90s ?

This crap must be stopped!!

I wholeheartedly endorse this permanent-absentee idea. The typical CA ballot is pages and pages long, typically containing close to a dozen Propositions in both short and full-text form, with Pro and Con arguments and rebuttals to each. It takes me more than one evening to go through the stuff, and that's after hearing about them on the TV &c. When I've done my homework, I'd rather be able to finish the job at my leisure as well.

Absentee ballots sent in by soldiers and sailors however will still be thrown in the garbage.
