Two, three, four or more years ago many feared the use of FEMA by the President.
This time it is going to be fun. ?

I feel that this is probably happening in FEMA, if it wasn't then FEMA is falling down on the job. Like it or not we are in the crosshairs of several Countries and our government knows it. Now they may not be willing to admit it to the general populace, but it's a fact just the same. I hope we won't need FEMA but in my gut I have this feeling that we are heading into some hard tough times for our great country.

They are practicing and training, and there isn't a thing wrong with that. Better to have them overtrained than undertrained!

"The news report about FEMA building the temporary cities to house disaster refugees is totally bogus." I suppose that's true, they are not building temporary cities, they are just preparing to do so.

Put a wire fence and guard towers around these "temporary emergency cities" and you can call them something very different. < /tinfoil hat >

Actually, there is a good chance that certain types of WMD attacks could cause us to evacuate cities: mass anthrax attacks for example, using anthrax already stockpiled in the USA by Iraq for example.

I don't think there needs to be a tin foil hat alert on this at all, the $hit's fixing to hit the fan & we may have an attack on American soil again. I never thought it could happen the 1st time, but it did.

Let them practice or build all they want, sooner or later it will be needed. Whether it's because of a natural or manmade disaster is yet to be seen.

What natural disaster would require FEMA to create emergency cities FEMA descended from Civil Defense. Civil Defense was prepared to shelter survivors of nuclear attack. FEMA took on other roles such as hurricane relief when it was apparently decided there would be no defense against nuclear attack.
FEMA may have reports and plans by the truckload, but they have little organization and funding. In case of nuclear attack, FEMA will take over organization of relief, but most of their workers will be new hires and temporaries, as well as volunteers. No one will have the slightest idea what to do about anything. You will be on your own.

Bunk. I'm in hurricane country and unless a 200 mph superstorm hit and wiped out the state of Florida would we need that. Andrew was a major disaster down here because building codes were substandard and not enforced. Now if there's an evacuation, it's mandated by LEO on the coastal areas. Earthquakes are another story entirely.
I'll be curious to see who is "qualified" to live in these temporary cities and if they have the force of law to make you relocate to one.

About every 10-15 years a major huricane hits the continental US. During my military career I was involved in setting up temporary housing in the US for three different natural disasters and a couple of man made disasters. We set up tents after Andrew, after the floods in North Dakota, and for people relocating after the volcano erupted in the Phillipines. People aren't "forced" to live in the shelters, they're provided for people who don't have other options.
OBTW - I also live in Florida.

The normal shelters in the past, no doubt, no one is forced to live in them. The question I have is will FEMA have the authority to force non-willing civilians to relocate to these cities. It's an open question that no one from the government has been willing to answer.

How much sky is left after all these warnings???

Follow the money.
$300 million just for architects and engineers
Campaign contributors all, I am sure.
