personally, it really does not matter what the senate subcommittee does or not do. they have no power to prosecute. lieberman is doing all he can to make this a political show and the tables have turned on him. he is not, repeat, is not, going to cooperate and call rubin. it is simply too embarrassing for the socialists.

foley has the right idea. get those who can actually file charges to do the investigation. i suspect that the bush administration has an investigation going on as we speak.

If they do call Rubin, the democrats will probably ask questions like what did you have for lunch today, and how's your wife and children. They wouldn't want to ask any questions that might be hard to explain or incriminating.

"A spokesman for retiring Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), the ranking member of the Senate Government Reform Committee, said that Thompson is not pressuring Lieberman to pursue Rubin."

The sooner this man is gone the better...what a tremendous disappointment Tompson has been..surrendered to Glenn on the Chicom hearings and now this....

"I'm a lawyer, right? I'm a hired gun," he quipped. "If you want me to try to figure out some way, since I'm a Republican, too, in which you can put Mr. Rubin on the hot seat, that's a different question."

Somebody please ask Mr. Fleischman THAT question.

"If Joe Lieberman won't do his job, I'll do it for him," he said. "He has a responsibility to subpoena Rubin, and he's ignoring that responsibility."

Wow!!! A Republican with balls! Here I was thinking that Newt was the last keeper of the Repulican gonads and that they were lost when he left town. It's a genuine miracle!!!

Where is our institutional memory? Does anyone remember how the clintons got away with whitewater? In particular, does anyone remember or care that it is because they got away with pulling strings to keep Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan afloat after it was insolvent which cost the taxpayers some 60 million, that we have this kind of thing today? Fiske, Starr and congress let them get away with contributing to the savings and loan debacle and now we have this.

I wish they would also call up Alan Greenspan. Rumor (which I cannot substantiate) has it that he secured permission when he took the job of Fed Chairman to manage his own investments. Currently, and for some time, his investments have all been in T bills.

IMHO for the last three years we have been in a deflation. For the last ten years or so the dollar has appreciated by 40%. The short term rates on T bills in this country should have been 1%. Remember, we have 100% security, world's best military and a stable, growing economy.

High US interest rates and demands for capital to meet balance of payment problems have resulted in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico all being pressed to the wall.
