Next time, try ordering a "highball." The older bartenders will know what you mean. As for ordering "rye," most US bartenders will think you're ordering a sandwich.

You all up there need to change your ideas about firearms before I'd want any canadians having any say in the american gov. Untill then, I prefer we stay two separate nations.
Same goes for mexico.

Here in the midwest, I can honestly say I've seen a bottle of rye whisky ONCE in my entire life. I'd say about 50% of the whiskey here in the midwest is blended whiskey. Probably 40 percent is bourbon, and the remaining 10% is scotts. Rye is practically nonexistent.

Actually probably 3 new nations in 100 years. Conservative America stretching from Alaska to Florida. Liberal nation made up of New England and the now Canadian eastern provinces. Then Quebec. My hope is that it will be a peaceful separation.

Well, it can happen with provinces such as British Columbia, Alberta, and few others. But I fail to see Quebec or Ontario being part of America. They are just way too socialist, and would have nothing to do with America. When Canada becomes part of our country, please leave Quebec or Ontario out of it.
Acutally, there should be three countries, the United States, Quebec, and Ontario.

I saw we trade em even up, Kalipornia, The Socialist Republic of New York, and Taxachusetts for British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. And we while Ship Bill Clinton free of charge as Twofer with the Hildabeast.

I loved the old Hamm's bear.
When in south Louisiana the wife and I went for pizza and they had a seafood pizza, why not we say?
Talk about horrible, seafood and pizza don't mix.

"Sure, Canada would benefit from switching to the U.S dollar but Canadians fear losing their identity" They wouldn't have to lose their identity. If we can call the Northwest tip of the lower-48 "New England", then the New Huge States to the North can continue to be known as "Canada", n'est ce pas?
Even Quebec could be at home. They're already here! Louisiana is largely built on the cultural foundation from French Canadian expatriots (as well as the descendants of the original French settlers) who were driven from Acadia by the Canadians starting in 1755. Ever listen to "Acadian Driftwood" by The Band?
Acadian Driftwood
The war was over and the spirit was broken
The hills were smokin' as the men withdrew
We stood on the cliffs
Oh, and watched the ships
Slowly sinking to their rendezvous
They signed a treaty and ourhomes were taken
Loved ones forsaken
They didn't give a damn
Try'n' to raise a family
End up the enemy
Over what went down on the plains of Abraham (*)
Acadian driftwood
Gypsy tail wind
They call my homethe land of snow
Canadian cold front movin' in
What a way to ride
Oh, what a waytogo
Then some returned to the motherland
The high command had them cast away
And some stayed on to finish what they started
They never parted
They're just built that way
We had kin livin' south of the border
They're a little older and they've been around
They wrote a letter life is a whole lot better
So pull up your stakes, children and come on down
Fifteen under zero when the day became a threat
My clothes were wet and I was drenched to the bone
Been out ice fishing, too much repetition
Make a man wanna leave the only home he's known
Sailing out of the gulf headin' for Saint Pierre
Nothin' to declare
All we had was gone
Broke down along the coast
But what hurt the most
When the people there said
"You better keep movin' on"
Everlasting summer filled with ill-content
This government had us walkin' in chains
This isn't my turf
This ain't my season
Can't think of one good reason to remain
I've worked in the sugar fields up from New Orleans
It was ever green up until the floods
You could call it an omen
Points ya where you're goin'
Set my compass north
I got winter in my blood
Acadian driftwood
Gypsy tail wind
They call my home the land of snow
Canadian cold front movin' in
What a way to ride
Ah, what a way to go
Sais tu, A-ca-di-ej'ai le mal du pays
[You know, Acadia, I long for the country (I am homesick)]
Ta neige, Acadie, fait des larmes au soleil
[Your snow, Acadia, makes tears in the sun (or for the sun)]
J'arrive Acadie, teedle um, teedle um, teedle ooh
[I am arriving Acadia (or I am coming Acadia)]
(*): "The Plains of Abraham" refer to farm land owned by Abraham Martin just west of the The Citadel in Quebec City and the site of the battle between the French and the English. It is now a park (also overlooks the St.Lawrence) and is a wonderful place to visit if you ever get the chance.
Here's an article about this song. It includes some interesting history of the events surrounding the migration, and some comments on how fluid and ill-defined the borders were between Canada and the US.

Re phrase... The American territory from northern California northward will merge.......
I don't recall Alaska specifically being mentioned by RH but presume is included in the Northwest amalgamation.

I have great respect for the futurist thinking of Robert Heinlein and there is, of course much ground for speculation. His point for thought is that nothing lasts forever and the forces of history produce chang.

I may buy my next car up there.
I'd settle for one of their full flush toilets, available at select Canadian Tire outlets. Through it in the back of the pick-up and try getting through customs.
To: Lonesome in Massachussets
I've thought about it too - no problem getting through customs if it's for personal use. I brought two shower heads back on my last trip.
