Michelle Malkin for INS Chief
Vanity | August 16th, 2002 | Sabertooth

Posted on 08/16/2002 12:43:09 PM PDT by Sabertooth

She's a successful politicial columnist, a rock-ribbed conservative Republican, the daughter of Philippino immigrants, and passionately opposed to the invasion of Illegal Aliens into our nation.

Michelle Malkin would be a blockbuster selection for President Bush as the new INS Chief, in the wake of the retirement announcement of current Chief James Ziglar.

Let the Democrats try and demagogue her.

Good idea! You should start an online petition drive and link it to FR for folks to sign here. I'll sign up ASAP.

"Bush doesn't want to stop illegal immigration. I'm thinking he'll choose Spencer Abraham, or at least someone who share's Abraham's views on immigration."

This is Jorge Bush's last chance to win in 2004. Already, he's alienated way too many of the sole major demographic group to vote for him - non-Hispanic whites in Red Nation - to have any chance in 2004, given how narrow his win was in 2000, unless he does something serious to show us that we count more to him than the illegal-alien lobby. Otherwise, we'll abandon him at the polls in 2004.

"If you want something done about Illegals, we need lightning in a bottle, and an irresistible political package." "Michelle Malkin would be a sensation."

Well said, Saber.

"It would be real interesting to see the RATS try and attack a migrant, ethnic minority woman with brains, looks and a great political philosophy, to boot."

LOL Plus, its our opportunity to call the RATS racists. That's irresistable too!

Bump.

I'd like to see her if for no other reason than she's MUCH easier to look at than James Ziglar
< /understatment>

Seriously From the little I've read of her work I'd have to say sure why not.

But you mentioned Condi Rice.

Ah, the unfinished thought was along the lines of ...

"You think Condi Rice is a superstar?

Get a load of Michelle Malkin."

Appears to have lost it's zing in the translation, as you weren't the first one with whom it missed the mark.

Wasn't a jab at Condi, I think she's dynamite. I have for a while, a friend of mine was a professor at Stanford while she was there, and he always spoke highly of her.

I happen to to think that, like Condi, Michelle could trump a lot of the demagoguery often hurled at the GOP.

Ok. My thought is that Bush should avoid appointing anyone who is a firebrand on this issue. It requires the kind of sophistication and nuance that would enrage you probably. And of course, unless there are employer sanctions, which won't happen, rooting out and stopping illegals is a largely futile exercise except at the margin.

Me am enraged?

I don't mind if someone lower profile comes in and starts getting the job done. Nor do I want a militarization of the issue in any case. I agree on the need for enforcement of employer sanctions, as one of a number of means of addressing the matter.

Since you don't think that will happen, do I understand correctly that you feel Bush ought to appoint someone who will maintain the status quo, just going through the motions?

I have no fixed opinion. What I do know is that all of this has considerably less importance than you ascribe to it. I think assimilative influences are alive and well in America, and more potent in their solvency than ever. And the immigrants, legal and illegal, are in general, skewed towards the right side of the bell curve of the gene pool, as has always been the case.

Well, let's have a moratorium on saying "Jorge Bush," at least until we see the nomination.

I don't mind the term, though I don't choose to use it. But there are others on this forum who might be amenable to Malkin as INS Chief, or some of our other suggestions, who just shut down at the use of "Jorge."

We don't need to alienate them, we need to persuade some of them that the problem is real, so that we can get something done about it.

<< ..... the head of the INS has to have some administrative and leadership experience and ability. >>

Wow.

What a novel idea!

That would make a nice change.

Why don't you send Mr Bush a note to that effect?

I'll second that nomination.

By the way, she lurks here on FR, under here husbands screen name.

If you buy her new book, you may recognize some of the numbers she quotes. They look remarkably like the ones on my profile page.

I'll Feepmail her and se what she thinks.
