Unions have a role to play in our society. There are legitimate concerns that workers must organize to address. However, it's obvious that criminal and political thugs in the unions have taken advantage of the workers organization to prostitute the true intent of unions for their own benefit.

Unions are dominated by thugs, crooks and people on the take at the expense of their members. The laws on the books protect criminal activity by these thugs. Its time for a change in the labor laws to insure that honest people represent workers.

"Unions have a role to play in our society."

Agreed. If you work a job where the employer might be tempted to put your life on the balance sheet, i.e. coal miners, cops, firemen etc. where they might say "well we think 5 guys will get hurt/killed this year but we can afford the lawsuits" then that industry needs a union.

But as far as teacher's unions, forget it. Abolish them.

Ultimately, this violence will work against the unions. About eight years ago I was visiting Drexel University when their service staff union (the Teamsters) were striking. I saw a few university vehicles that had been vandalized, and the Teamster's semi was parked across from the administration building blaring the same song (I think it was We are the Champions) over and over. It certainly left a bad impression of the Teamsters with me, not to mention the faculty and future leaders of this country.
