Reno and McBride in Dead Heat! (Reno on the Ropes in Florida!!)

TALLAHASSEE -- A week ago it looked like a blowout race, but the Democratic primary for governor is looking more like a fight to the finish with Bill McBride and Janet Reno in a statistical dead heat, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel poll shows.
In a remarkable turnaround, McBride has closed the gap to a 3-point margin too close to call in his underdog challenge to Reno for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
The poll confirms what McBride campaign officials have been suggesting for days: There has been a rapid swing of undecided Democrats to McBride, providing a momentum that some think could carry McBride into the lead by the primary on Sept. 10. McBride, a Tampa lawyer who has been considered until recently a long shot as the Democrats nominee for governor, appears to be within striking distance and is telling supporters that he also has Gov. Jeb Bush on the defensive.
However, Reno, the former U.S. attorney general who enjoys widespread name recognition and strong support in South Florida, still is the frontrunner in the race, with support from 37 percent of the likely Democratic primary voters statewide, compared to 34 percent support for McBride. Sen. Daryl Jones of Miami is a distant third with 11 percent.
Another 18 percent of the likely voters say they dont know who will get their vote.
The poll surveyed registered Democrats statewide who are likely to vote in the Sept. 10 primary.
The survey offered troubling information for all Democrats. When asked about head-to-head match-ups against Bush in the November general election, some Democrats said they prefer the GOP incumbent over McBride or Reno.
In a Bush-Reno race, 22 percent of the Democrats would vote for Bush. In a Bush-McBride fight, 15 percent would choose Bush.
Voter opinions have changed sharply from two months ago, when McBride was just beginning to get his story played on television advertisements.

It's funny how any opponent of Janet's is automatically "the pretty one."

A JEB vs. Reno ballot would make me do the Walter Huston happy dance! :-)

Part of me wants to see Reno annihilated by Jeb Bush in November. But it would be pretty sweet to see her knocked off the ballot by a complete unknown within her own party. If Bush can't beat this upstart (McBride) in November, then the GOP has big problems in Florida.

Unfortunately, Democrats are somewhat better at shedding their losers than Republicans are, at least it seems this way to me.

LOL! Like Grampa Reno used to say: "...Hmmmm...let's just hope she's smart. There aren't enough bags in the world..."

I pity what her poor mother went through, giving birth.

I would prefer she win the Dem primary, so that people will know what the Dem party stands for.
THEN get whacked in the general election.

This is actually not good news. McBride would be a much tougher opponent than Reno.

The more Reno and McBride fight, the more dem campaign money gets used up before november.

In 5 days the wife and I are getting certified on the new machines . This should be fun ! That reminds me. I just started reading the book Visual Basic .NET for Dummies. In one section the author was talking about designing clear, coherent Web Screens. The "bad" example he used was a web version of the butterfly ballot. It never mentioned algore, but I know that's the model he had in mind.
He should have entitled the chapter "How to design a web page even Florida Democrats can use".

I still don't think the Dems would put the dyke on the ballot if they didn't think it would win. I see the dems using weapons of mass destruction and some serious slash burning over the next few months. They must have something up their sleeve.
