Sept. 11 dead honored on Wednesday, 8:46 a.m. your time zone: Rolling Mozart Requiem

We will be participating in the requiem in Tucson, Arizona. Tune in to your classical radio affiliate (probably NPR) to hear a local performance or concert recording.

Even the ultra-libs at NPR couldn't nix this broadcast which like all requiems--that is, masses for the dead-- is a prayer for Christ's mercy on the day of judgment.

I highly recommend a glance at this translation of this solemn choral mass.

BTTT for me as well. Sounds like a fitting thing to do. And a little poke in the eye for NPR.

Note that neither France or Germany are participating in this project. Also note the strong participation of the Eastern Europeans and the Russians.

Actually, NPR plays quite a bit of religious-themed music. I've heard several requiems, Masses, Bach chorales, and the like on NPR. They also play "Seven Lesson And Carols" every Christmas Eve, and lots of nice stuff on Easter Sunday.

Thanks for the heads-up, Molly.

They also play "Seven Lesson And Carols" every Christmas Eve,

The Festival of Lessons and Carols is one of my most favorite Christmas traditions. I'm usually listening while finishing the big bows to go on the wreaths on the doors of our Church. Of course I should have had them DONE by then, but you know how that goes. Maybe this year...

I've always thought how lovely it would be to be IN King's College Chapel to listen to it in person. I thought it would be so beautiful to be in the lovely chapel all decorated for Christmas. Turns out there are NO decorations, only candles! I may want to save my money and go to England when it's warmer! Either way, I love Lessons and Carols, and our Choir Director is incorporating the idea into our pre-Midnight Mass choral selections.

"also to to any stern fans . . . They will be rebroadcasting the 09/11/2001 show this Wednesday."

If you are referring to the Howard Stern radio show, I'm curious as to how he handled the events of that morning. Since seeing his movie I've been very intrigued by him (the former Psychology major in me I guess lol). Is there a link somewhere?

I'm still not sure how to 'take' all the media this week. We are attending a dinner and memorial service at church Wed night. The kids schools have said they can wear red, white and blue instead of uniforms Wed and I'm sure I'll be wearing my ribbon and angel to work. We will acknowledge 9/11 in our home, yet surprisingly I find reliving the images over the weekend difficult.

While I did lose alot on 9/11/01, I didn't lose a personal friend or family member. My grieving process is different from those that did. I think back to the 1 yr anniversary of my Mother-in-Laws passing on to Glory and think, you know, I wouldn't want to relive how ALS assaulted her body, how does this affect the families of 9/11 and those directly affected by the 3 crime scenes?

Personally what I want to see and hear in the media is the religious music, the patriotic music, the survivors who choose to speak publically... I want to see the flags and the fireworks. I want to hear from our military, I want to see our men and women fired up for battle. I want to hear from our religious leaders... I want to hear the real Gospel poured out to the masses as a soothing balm. Mostly, I want to hear from our President and I want to see all our former Presidents united behind him because we need that kind of healing.

I do not want to watch the buildings and the planes fall again....over and over.

Tho I doubt my ear will be far from a radio on Wed, I want to go about my day without fear and that is exactly what I plan to do.

sorry to go on so

No mention of it on the local NPR station here in the SF Bay Area, KQED. KDFC (102.1 FM) however, will be playing Mozart's Requiem at 8p

I understand what you mean about revisiting pain, but unfortunately, for those that have forgotten, it is a reminder of how much we have to lose.
