ANTI-FLAG
ME

Posted on 09/30/2002 7:44:20 AM PDT by MotleyGirl70

Sunday morning I woke and went to Micky D’s to get my husband a big breakfast and some other kind of breakfast food (I bought myself a large coffee).

As I waited in line behind 100,000,000 other people I looked to my left and saw three boys; I’d say they couldn’t have been older than 16 years old. Description of said white punks listed below:

Boy 1: Frizzed out hair, John Lennon glasses and a jacket that was infested with pins and patches. One of those patches read: “Anti-Flag”. (this set me off)

Boy 2: Blue hair, chubby and he had a top hat on.

Boy 3: Let’s just say my cat craps bigger stool than this little twerp.

So as I was waiting in line I asked Boy 1; “What’s up with that patch, Anti-Flag?”

He said; “It’s a band.”

I said “Are you anti-American?”

The punk said; “Yes”

I said “Why?”

To which he said: “Vietnam, WWI and WWII did us no good. America kills the innocent.”

At this point my blood is boiling and I’m ready to punch this punk in the face and my food order is soon to be picked up.

I said; “I don’t give a shit what you think. When you get a job; and start paying taxes and contribute something to society your opinion doesn’t mean shit. So take your 60’s peace mentality and shove it up your ass. If you three represent the future of America, it scares me, it scares me very much. You want to want to be “anti-American”, go tell your b.s. to a United States veteran who fought for the very freedom you have.” (….I wanted to go on but I had to pick up my order and leave. I got a “nod” from some guy waiting in line in agreement with my confrontation with this kid.)

At that point I picked up my order, they left and I made my exit.

Is this the future of America? Anti-Flag?

I cant possibly comprehend what you have been through in war to make you think the way you do but I know this:

The spill of blood is a necessity to usher peace. Find me a time in history where that isnt true.

Ok, so I have a question for you, that you may answer or choose not to, it's up to you. More of that freedom for you to use, gotta love it!

When, if ever in your lifetime, was the government what it was supposed to be? (It's never been in my lifetime, but I hope to help change that) And, in your lifetime, who was the best president? (My vote goes to Reagan, I believe he was great!)

The spill of blood is a necessity to usher peace.

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Hatred is love...

Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Our government has not ever been "what it is supposed to be". The only morally legitimate purpose of state, is the defense of individual rights. Any function outside those bounds, is immoral.

And, in your lifetime, who was the best president? (My vote goes to Reagan, I believe he was great!)

Certainly Reagan espoused the rhetoric I agreed with most. (but he failed to be true to his own words). Calvin Coolidge was probably the greatest president this nation has seen.

It is.

I guess if you mean freedom as a state of mind. But whether we like it or not, there are so many things that you are not allowed to do, which violate no one's rights, that they can not even be listed.

I know our disagreement on this small matter is semantic in nature.

Btw, nice to see you posting.

Spot on. Kinda scary that people always look at me like I'm crazy when I say that.

Reading your posts, I cant help but sense a slight (ok, large) hint of bitterness in life. Your posts are short and/or condescending. Using your war time to reign supreme in the forum in your own mind.

How would you solve the Iraq issue? Hug them? Give me a second while I gag.

"The tree of freedom must; from time to time; be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and saints"

Tree of liberty... patriots and tyrants.

The words belong to Jefferson.

They address the need for free men to stand in defense of their own rights (against the state).

They do not address the typical forays of military adventurism our current government sees fit to involve us in... all over the globe.

The founders of this nation had no interest in such things, and in fact warned us quite strenuously of the dangers of these entanglements.

But as with most things... we've ignored them.

Alright, I like that first answer, but the second is suspect. Although, I do not know alot about Coolidge, he was a tiny bit before my time. But none-the-less, I think you've finally convinced me that you're at least not a commie. Congradulations! :-)

Long live freedom, and long live the USA!

These kids are dressed in manner that invoked attention. Their demeanor was that of complete confrontation. They sit wanting attention, while all others stand around, look and think to themselves how they would have the guts to tell these kids what they think of them and their anti-American ways, I DID IT! Before 9-11 I probably wouldn’t have said anything, but I am sick and tired of kids such as these. They know not of the freedom given to them.

Frankly, I don’t care what you think of me and how I approached these brats. This was not a matter of “maturity” as you claim. I call as I see it. Had this punk not had the “Anti-flag” patch on , I would have let it go. We are at a time when we need American support. When I see this anti-Americanism it gets me very angry to know people like this have no appreciation for the freedom of being American. I’m all for freedom of speech and wearing a patch so asinine as “Anti-Flag”, but that also give me the right to speak my mind.

BTW, more people support me than do you. I just had the guts to do so.

Reading your posts, I cant help but sense a slight (ok, large) hint of bitterness in life.

A bit of projection perhaps?

I am quite happy...

Your posts are short and/or condescending.

My posts are honest, and to the point. (I think this causes considerable discomfort in some). Even now, I'm sure there are people complaining to FR's moderators, about my "impure thoughts" being expressed here.

Using your war time to reign supreme in the forum in your own mind.

I don't know what this sentence is trying to convey. It seems like gibberish to me.

How would you solve the Iraq issue?

Can you tell me exactly what "the Iraq issue" is?

Give me a second while I gag.

More thinking... less gagging.

No... I mean it quite literally.

Perhaps we'll discuss it some time.

I agree, and sorry about the wording, I am doing it from memory, and undoubtely should remember it correctly, but it is early Monday.

Now, as far as military advernturism, what do you mean? Iraq? Is that whats really troubling you? Maybe your more of an isolationist, ever thought of that route?

Oh, and for the record, I think we have bigger fish to fry than Saddam (China, North Korea), but a little appetizer never hurt anyone right?.... Do you really think he wouldn't have been happier with 9/11 if it were 30 million dead as apposed to 3 thousand? We cannot wait for a smoking gun, because the smoking gun will be a smoking mushroom cloud. (aka Rice?)

Comments?

Well, I found your post quite entertaining. You certainly don't mince your words. ;)

Two more comments:

- It is not clear to me how you get a "big breakfast" at McD's. Do you order two?

- In all seriousity, I think you probably would have been more effective if you had been somewhat less confrontational with the punks. Kids tend to be rebellious, and confronting them too hard can have the effect of pushing them even further in the opposite direction.

I would think it might have been more effective to have simply said something like, "You know, a lot of people died so you could wear that."

That might have touched one of them. Maybe not, but maybe.

Teens like these embarrass me because they give all teenagers, even the sane ones, a bad name. They're too naive to know better and too lazy to want to know better. They're content to brag about their individuality while comparing safety pins and listening to their punk "music." They don't realize that hating pop culture and America doesn't make them unique.

Now, as far as military advernturism, what do you mean?

Do you have any idea how many nations the United States has troops quartered in?

And how many decades it has been this way?

The founders would have vomited.

I know, I was just so angry. I see this all over and I just "let it out."

Yes, perhaps I could have been less confrontational, but I see this EVERYWHERE and I just can't/don't understand how un-American kids/"adults" can be!

I've had it! I'm usually a soft spoken person with a healthy sense of humor, but I just couldn't stand seeing such a patch.
