I am extremely sorry to post this, but this man is out of line and past his time......

You know, there's no fool like an old fool, and because there is no limit to the age of an elected official, (unfortunately) as their abilities fade with age they are still allowed to disrupt the country's business because of their percieved notions, both real and imagined, with no recourse for those other senatrors, who are still in their prime both physically and MENTALLY.....

Senator Byrd needs to retire and go home, no offense, but his ravings about the current resolution, WHICH EVERYONE HAS ALREADY AGREED TO WILL PASS, he still raves on...spending the country's funds on a wasted effort that will only end in failure.....

But he can cost the country money and time to accomplish nothing

Partly true, that was more what the founding fathers wanted for the House. More senior statesmen with a wealth of experience who could calmly and rationally debate the issues of the day and serve as a "cooling influence" were supposed to be the hallmark of the Senate (modeled on the House of Lords, which was full of old men). Frequent turnover isn't necessarily a good thing, as you would eventually have staffers and aides (who would likely have more experience than their bosses) serving as de facto members of Congress (of course with the more moronic members on the Dem side, many already are). Nonetheless, there are a lot of folks that ought not be there...

He is no longer any service to the country if he ever was in the first place. The solution to most of our problems is twofold:

• 1. Eliminate the income tax, go back to the traditional tariff revenue system and yes- cut spending to live within the revenue generated thereby. Worked for the first 150 years of the Republic, and would do more to end porkbelly politics and stimulate the domestic economy than either raising taxes or, conversely, "targeted tax cuts" ever could.
• 2. No more popular election of Senators. That would do more for "campaign finance reform" than any single thing I can think of.
  

  But of course neither of these two reforms will ever happen. :(

Byrd is not going home. He will be reelected until the day he croaks because West Virginia is Dependent upon him. The state has high unemployment, especially with the demise of the steel industry in this country. The state is poor and broke. Byrd is able to get roads and whatever built in the state with federal funds because he is chairman of committees.

States are stuck with old-timers no longer able to serve or contribute because the machine of party politics can keep them in. You're right, there is no excuse for 40 years of Ted Kennedy (and in the days of when MA was still a 2-party state (until the '50s), he would've been sent packing in the past). I was just attempting to point out the potential downside to term limits (we have a term-limited Metro Council here in Nashville, and while it dumped the Geritol-set from it, it only replaced them with younger (and even more clueless) buffoons. The Council was supposed to serve as a strong counter to the Mayor (one mayor called them "40 jealous whores"), but now they can scarcely run a meeting in a coherent fashion, let alone challenge the Mayor. I probably could support term limits at the national level (though not 6 years, more like 18 (9 House terms, 3 Senate)), since that sounds like a good number. I wish you luck in ridding Joe Biden, but someone should've flogged Pete DuPont for not taking him out when he was term-limited out of the Governor's office in 1984.
