Col. David Hackworth just was on H&C, arguing against the pending invasion of Iraq. Claimed that because our chem warfare outfits may not work, that Bush is "sending America's blue collar sons to die", and that it is really about oil.

Maybe he ending up at a lib party and smoked to much of the hooter. Usually I like Col. Hackworth but he sure wasn't making sense tonight.

I heard Hackworth saying the same sort of thing about 3 weeks and I didn't think he sounded very convincing. He seems to operate on the assumption that because he is the military expert - and he personally knows a lot of military experts - he knows more than anyone else about this. No matter what argument you give him for going to war, he's disdainful because you're not a military expert like he is. I personally think he may have a screw loose. Pride tends to do that to people.

My next door neighbor is a company commander in the National Guard. They're a chemical weapons unit consisting of 172 troops and will likely ship out to Iraq when things start rolling because of the danger of chemical weapons. I guaranty Bush & Co. are well aware of the threats facing our military and that the last thing they want is to send large numbers of ill-equiped troops into that sort of environment.

Whatever defects existed in the equipment previously, they'll be well resolved before we move on Iraq.

What if he is correct about the inability of our soldiers to overcome chemical warfare?

Just a question: Isn't it interesting that every thing that's happening ties in with the Prez's position on war?

Is it possible that he wants to get even with saddam for attempting to assissinate his dad? After all, he did mention publicly in recent weeks. Again, just asking.

I certainly don't criticize you for raising those questions. I did object to some of Hackworth's blather. The guy is so clearly full of himself that I can't trust what he has to say.

And by the way, just in case you're wondering, it's not because he disagrees with Bush on this. Lots of people I know disagree. But they do it humbly and with an open mind. Hackworth doesn't.

At some point you have to trust, especially in time of war. It is a fact that we were attacked on 9/11, and it is a fact that Iraq is a danger.

It is an accident of fate that the President's father was a target of assasination. Fortunately, it didn't succeed. The President's father was a former President of the United States. What if the target had been Ronald Reagan? Would you expect him to be less upset because it wasn't his father?

President Bush has always told the truth. He has yet to be caught in a lie. He has earned my trust, and I will abide by his decision.

Col. David Hackworth is someone I highly respect as a voice of the soldier.

He left the Army and moved to Australia because of his views on nuclear weapons.

Supporting our soldiers is what he does better than almost anyone else I know.

When it comes to American military stratigic tactics, he is over his pay grade.
