[history]
In its second round of employee cutbacks this year, Dick Corp. has laid off 34 people as part of an ongoing "realignment" at one of the region's largest and oldest construction firms.
Dick President and Chief Executive Officer Denny Watts made the announcement to employees Thursday, attributing the cutbacks to the instability of the energy industry, which Dick pursued in the late 1990s, and a desire to better manage the company's costs. Twenty-four of the 34 layoffs happened in the Pittsburgh area and the others were on the East Coast and Chicago, trimming Dick's worldwide payroll to 886 people, down from 950 earlier in the year.

There's a Mohel joke here someplace...and not too deep, I'd suspect.

One could go on about being shafted by Dick, but I presume the Sun will pick up on that theme when they hear about this. ;)

Willie - did you post the announcement about FedEx Ground's 1.8 billion dollar expansion project? All Pittsburgh news isn't doom and gloom.

It sounds like these 34 guys wound up with dick.

Due to the size of Dick's operation, they probably hired union construction workers which are generally temporary workers...
Likely the affected employers were on salary and possibly Republicans...Just want to point out that these layoffs and plant closings affect Republicans and conservatives as well...

No need for a name change here. I understand that they are a target for a takeover by Schlong Industries, Wanger, Inc, or possibly Member Co..
That oughtta make them feel better about telling folks where they work.
